Project Overview:

Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. Once complete, the mine and processing facilities will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the United States by far – enough to power 1 million electric vehicles per year.

As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team contractors engineering and building the facility. We are also managing procurement of about $1 Billion in goods and services.

Earth work began in 2023 and design and procurement of long-lead equipment is underway.

The project is located in the high desert and wide-open spaces of north-central Nevada about 25 miles from the Oregon border, 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada and 3 hours northeast of Reno.

Planned with sustainability and the environment in mind, the facility will use its excess process heat to generate electricity and will recycle process water up to seven times. Once the second phase of the project is complete, Thacker Pass will produce more than 16 times the current U.S. output of lithium.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. #LI-NP1

 

Major Responsibilities:

Work Planning & Packaging 

  • Prepares construction drawings and sketches if required
  • Leads preparation of construction drawings and schedules and the design of temporary construction facilities  
  • Ensure and Leads follow up for as built drawings and other job plans provided by subcontractors

Material Management 

  • Initiates requisitions for field purchases. 
  • Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment if required.
  • Verify material availability agains 3Week Look Ahead Schedule with Subcontractors

Quantities 

  • Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required. 
  • Support verification/accruals of quantities reported by subcontractors

Safety / Quality Control 

  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and subcontractors when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely. 

Technical 

  • Proactively considers continuous learning or shows interest to pursue appropriate learning activities 
  • Support technical reviews on field changes proposed by subcontractors

STR / Subcontract Coordinator 

  • Reviews and approves inspection test plans 
  • Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Broad based knowledge of the function and interrelationships of field construction entities and operations on a multi discipline environment
  • Previous experience managing Construction/Subcontract field design changes
  • Mechanical Degree Preferred with past experience in buildings or process plants.
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical operations (HVAC and Piping Systems)
  • Must be familiar with current industry quality standards
