Job Title: Pharmacy Intern Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Intern, under close supervision of the Pharmacist, provides proper and adequate pharmaceutical services, including entering physician medication orders, preparing and dispensing of medical prescriptions, and ensuring proper storage, packaging, stability, and disposition of pharmaceuticals. The position is expected to meet state certifications, requires familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within Pharmacy, and relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Job Function:

Assists Pharmacist: This will have been satisfactorily performed when… Accurate medication patient profiles per MD orders are maintained in the Cerner system 100% of the time under the supervision of the pharmacist. Approved Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee substitutions are made or used when applicable at the point of order entry 100% of the time under the supervision of the pharmacist. Appropriate adult/geriatric/pediatric/neonatal patient care is provided after assessment and interpretation of patient data and needs under direct supervision of a pharmacist. Medications are accurately weighed, measured and compounded utilizing appropriate tools and equipment as evidenced by lack or errors. Supervision is provided at all times in accordance to established guidelines. Scheduled medications are accurately dispensed/returned to the Narcotic Vault 100% of the time as evidenced by reports under direct supervision of a pharmacist. Proficiency is developed in pharmacy information systems including the ability to troubleshoot and/or clarify orders as evidenced by the resolution of problems immediately and lack of complaints under the supervision of the pharmacist. Initiative is displayed to prevent, identify, and resolve pharmacy related patient care problems immediately under the supervision of the pharmacist. Clinical pharmacists are notified when an order is placed in the clinical queue under the supervision of the pharmacist. Concise, applicable, comprehensive and timely responses to requests for drug information are provided to patients and health care providers as evidenced by lack of complaints under the supervision of the pharmacist.
