Title: Laboratory Technician - Blood Bank 

Our blood bank plays a vital role in patient safety by ensuring a safe and reliable blood supply. As a Laboratory Technician, you'll be an essential member of our team, performing a variety of tasks to ensure the proper collection, testing, processing, and storage of blood products. Your work directly contributes to the success of critical medical procedures, such as surgeries, transfusions, and treatments for blood disorders.

Responsibilities:

  • Blood Collection: Assist with blood donor phlebotomy procedures, following established protocols and ensuring a positive donor experience. (Depending on state regulations)
  • Blood Product Processing: Receive, prepare, label, and store blood components according to strict regulations and guidelines.
  • Blood Product Testing: Perform a variety of laboratory tests to determine blood type, compatibility, and presence of infectious diseases.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain adequate stock levels of blood products and ensure proper expiration dating.
  • Quality Control: Participate in quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of blood bank procedures and testing.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of all blood bank activities.
  • May assist with blood bank automation or donor recruitment activities (depending on the department).

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), Blood Banking, or a closely related field (preferred).
  • Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) in Blood Banking (highly preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a blood bank setting (a plus).
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with donors and healthcare professionals.
  • Proficient in computer skills and laboratory information systems (LIS).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
