The part-time Digital Literacy Instructor will serve on Commonpoint Queens’ Adult Workforce team by offering computer-focused classes tailored to meet the various and diverse needs of our clientele. 
The instructor will work with a segment of clients who wish to improve their typing, email, online collaboration, and other technology skills, as well as to those seeking to acquire skills and credentials that will prepare them for career opportunities in technology. The curriculum will also cultivate a digitally competent workforce that is fully equipped to find employment throughout New York City. 
All interested applicants must be well-versed in Zoom, video conferencing, PowerPoint creation, and other online digital tools used for virtual learning and working.  
Responsibilities: 
  • Be digitally fluent and able to deliver technology-focused lessons and classroom content through in-person and virtual learning tools, and online platforms.
  • Develop a digital curriculum for beginner and intermediate technology users that is focused on developing email skills, G-suite products (docs, sheets, slides), and other collaboration tools.
  • Assist Commonpoint with conducting intakes, outreaching, and recruitment.
  • Collaborate with the refugee resettlement team to recruit eligible students, facilitate ESOL course enrollment, and ensure all required case file documentation is completed.
  • Attend all relevant meetings, training, workshops, and outside events as needed.
  • Provide daily instruction, assessment administration, attendance, one-on-one tutoring, evaluation, and monitoring of individual student progress.
  • Manage student behavior, monitor and enforce student class attendance, dress code, and other program policies in a consistent manner.
  • Continually evaluate and evolve the curriculum as new technologies become available.
  • Work closely with the Vocational Team to identify student needs, provide the necessary support, establish individualized plans for student achievement, and participate in regular student status meetings.
  • Maintain and update Salesforce with student grades, certifications, and progress notes.
  • Create, submit, and maintain training curricula for approval and files.
  • Work closely with staff in other sites to ensure integrity.
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish program objectives.
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of school and state.

Qualifications:
  • At least one year of experience in teaching technology workshops / IT work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing lesson plans and facilitating classroom lessons and workshops, both virtually and in person.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience teaching technical courses or leading workshops.
  • Be able to work some evenings and weekends, depending on class scheduling.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to closely collaborate with colleagues and partners to work as part of a team to promote successful outcomes for Commonpoint clients.
  • Familiar with student assessment; and talent to continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum Ability to analyze and synthesize technical information.
  • Exceptional capacity to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to continuous changes in curriculum to stay current in the industry.
  • Experience in workforce development.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish.
