By operating radiologic equipment to make clinical diagnostic X-ray images as directed by physicians and performing routine diagnostic procedures, the Mammography Technologist serves the patient, physician, and other support staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

Specialize in production of screening and diagnostic x-rays for detection of breast tumorsPosition patient on examining table and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician. Explain procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperationMove x-ray equipment into specified position and adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance, based on knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and protocols. Select length and intensity for radiation exposure by adjusting equipment on individual patient basisPractice radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors, to minimize radiation to patient and staffFollow prescribed safety standards in operating all required radiological equipmentExamine radiologic images for properties such as density and contrast, definition, magnification, and distortionProcess radiographic images and send to PACS. Process routine paperwork. Maintain X-ray storage and filingEnsure equipment is in working order. Report equipment malfunctions to supervisorMaintain patient confidentialityParticipate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliationsMaintain strictest confidentialityPerform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

Satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology training in an AMA approved (two-year) school and meets the requirements for registry by the ARRTCurrent Oregon license in Diagnostic Radiography Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)Current healthcare level CPR/BLS certification1+ years of professional nursing or mammography experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in an electronic medical record system
