POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, the Sterile Preparation Resource Technician is responsible for ensuring all compounding rooms, devices, supplies, and personnel are compliant with USP Chapter and USP Chapter regulations as well as any applicable state Board of Pharmacy regulations. This includes ensuring proper airflow in ISO classified areas, verifying products used meet USP requirements for sterile compounding, and confirming devices are working according to manufacturer specifications. The Sterile Preparation Resource Technician completes routine environmental sampling of all devices and rooms, coordinates semi-annual recertification with an outside entity, conducts new employee training, writes and reviews sterile compounding procedures, and contributes to the annual written and didactic competency testing for all employees who engage in sterile compounding. Training and education are provided to technicians and pharmacists at initial hire, on a biannual basis, and as needed. This role supports the staffing of shifts in the IV room to ensure adequate staffing levels.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS 

Education/Licensure/Certification:

Current California Pharmacy Technician License is required upon hire.

Pharmacy Tech Certification Board (PTCB) certification required within one year of hire. 

Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT) required within one year of hire.

Knowledge:

Two year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in an acute care hospital pharmacy, providing unit dose and IV additive service or Home Care Pharmacy required. 

Knowledge of medications and use and familiarity with medical terminology is required.

Knowledge of Board of Pharmacy, USP , and USP regulations as they related to sterile compounding and hazardous compounding.

Skills:

Basic high school chemistry and math competency, and basic mechanical aptitude skills.

Ability to communicate well, including developing and implementing training programs preferred

Computer experience, including Microsoft 365 (word, excel, one drive) preferred

Ability to navigate the electronic health record, EPIC experience preferred
