What we're looking for: We are seeking a talented professional responsible for leading and providing strategic direction for the overall planning and execution of all RSNA external communications activities in alignment with the Society’s strategic plan, including content strategy, member publications, media relations, social media, and patient information. The Director: Public Information & Communications will lead, manage, and develop the communications department staff, and serves as primary liaison to related committees and volunteer groups.

What you'll do:

Provide direction and oversight across communications functions to maintain consistency and alignment with RSNA’s strategic vision and plan. Strengthen RSNA’s brand through focused and consistent communication strategies. Guide and oversee content strategy and messaging, ensuring impact and consistency. Collaborate across the organization to ensure external RSNA communications successfully represent RSNA and to maintain internal alignment on topic positions, as well as overall organizational positioning within the field. Foster collaboration between the PI&C department and the marketing department to leverage integrated MarCom efforts in support of RSNA programs, products, and activities. Partner with the director of Marketing to promote alignment, efficiency, and integration across departments via improved processes, workflows, and communication. Guide and oversee RSNA’s media relations program, which includes media strategies in support of RSNA programs and activities, opportunities to highlight radiologists’ contributions to healthcare, the RSNA journals’ press release program, the newsroom at the RSNA annual meeting, and maintenance of relationships with media representatives. Oversee print and online production, distribution, and fiscal management of RSNA News, the member newsmagazine; Daily Bulletin, the annual meeting daily newspaper; and enewsletters. Oversee public information programs and activities that fulfill the public information goals of the Society. This includes the planning, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of RadiologyInfo.org, a multi-organization patient information microsite. Identify opportunities for cross-committee communications and activities to further promote important messaging to and for the radiology community. Work closely with outside organizations’ leadership and staff on multi-organization campaigns and projects, such as Image Wisely, RadiologyInfo.org, and International Day of Radiology. Serve as a member of organizational leadership units such as the Directors Group and the Service Department Prioritization Team. Keep abreast of trends in the communications and media relations fields and the communications programs and activities of other radiologic societies. Oversee hiring, training, management, and development of public information and communications staff. Oversee development of department structures, procedures, budgets, schedules, and staff to ensure high-quality, cost-effective and timely production and distribution of communications. Other projects as assigned by the Assistant Executive Director: Marketing and Communications.

What you'll need:

Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations or Communication preferred 8 years of related experience required Excellent people leadership skills with an ongoing commitment to the art and science of leadership and professional development. This position leads a staff of ~15, as well as freelancers. Minimum five years of experience in equivalent position in communications, public relations, or related field. Strong communications, relationship-building, and organizational skills to address multiple stakeholders and a variety of programs and projects. Ability to accept and value feedback as an important tool for professional growth. Solid knowledge of best practices in communications and a continued commitment to evolving RSNA’s style in alignment with modern practices. Ability to respond to crises or challenging situations quickly and professionally. Ability to use strategic thinking, creativity, good judgment, analytical problem-solving skills, and fiscal management to develop and implement public information and communications campaigns and activities. Ability to work closely and effectively with Society’s volunteer leadership and committee members as primary RSNA contact and communications consultant/professional. Ability to develop and nurture crucial relationships with external audiences, including volunteers, advocacy groups, public information staff from other societies, and vendors. Highly skilled: proficient in English, writing, journalism and public relations. Knowledge of medical terminology is beneficial. Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines, prioritize projects, remain flexible and work in a fast-paced team environment. Experience developing and managing budgets. Some travel required.
