This is a unique program where your talents, expertise and experience will truly be valued. You'll be working side-by-side with EPA staff that are doing important work every day. Pay rate: $19.21/hr. Benefits: Paid Health Insurance Premium if working 60+ hours in a 2 week pay period, Paid Accrued Vacation, Paid Accrued Sick Time, Eleven Paid Federal Holidays, One Individual Holiday, and optional Vision and Dental Insurance available. This position does require a background check prior to onboarding. Must be a United States Citizen to be eligible for this position.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience in a laboratory or comparable setting requiring operation and maintenance of software-controlled analytical instruments and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) operation OR BA/BS Degree OR Previously completed training in Operation of nuclear counting instruments and software

  • Experience operating and maintaining software-controlled analytical instruments preferably in a radioanalytical laboratory
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Copying Machine
Duties:

Operate multiple types of radioanalytical instruments including performing analytical analysis of quality control samples, as well as interpretation and evaluation of the analytical results. Perform preventive maintenance on multiple types of radioanalytical instruments which includes maintaining proper levels of liquid nitrogen and P-10 gas as well as assessing, proposing, and executing corrective actions in the event a radioanalytical component fails.

  • Perform analytical analysis of quality control samples and radiation backgrounds on multiple types of radioanalytical instrumentation. Interpret and evaluate analytical results, as well as advise and propose corrective actions in the event of failures.   35%
  • Perform preventive maintenance on multiple types of radioanalytical instrumentation which includes maintaining the proper levels of liquid nitrogen and P-10 gas. Assess, propose, and execute corrective actions in the event a radioanalytical instrument component fails   35%
  • Following completion of analytical analysis, removes environmental samples from multiple types of radioanalytical instruments   20%
  • Review and verify entry of environmental samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).   10%

  • SEE enrollees may be required to meet certification standards prior to participating in field work Quality Assurance, Information Security, Lab and Radiation Safety, and any EPA-directed and funded training
  • On-the-job training as well as in-house training sponsored by NAREL
