About the Position

The Honors College maintains a vacancy pool of qualified persons interested in temporary teaching positions to instruct in a variety of general education classes in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Applications are accepted at any time, and positions may become available at any time during the academic year. Positions are normally for one course during the academic year. Classes are small, limiting at 15-28, maximum.

The Honors College is designed for students seeking an enhanced educational experience, and though students come from a broad variety of major areas, more are in the natural sciences than any other group of fields. Students expect to be actively involved in their classes and to write, or to be involved in experimental work and research as a matter of course in their Honors classes. Faculty are expected to introduce students to the widest possible variety of approaches to subject matter typical of their fields.

Position Responsibilities: The college values and expects genuine excellence in teaching, and instructors are expected to be current in their disciplines, to encourage student participation in their educations, to demand writing or other work appropriate to the discipline, to maintain rigorous academic standards, to provide extensive commentary or other feedback on student work in a timely manner, and to be available to students through regularly scheduled office hours. Instructors must have their classes evaluated using the standard university student evaluation forms and to make those reviews available to the program.

Required Qualifications Ph.D. or other terminal degree in the faculty member’s discipline Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the college or university level Demonstrated commitment to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds
