What You'll Do
As an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the continuous, efficient, and reliable operation of our water utility systems. This role focuses on the maintenance, repair, and optimization of electrical and instrumentation systems that support the production, distribution, storage and treatment of potable water.
This position will be willing and able to perform the following duties and others as assigned:
Process work using our computer maintenance management system (CMMS). Perform electrical/electronic preventative maintenance, repair of water systems’ motor controls, programmable logic controllers, industrial networking hardware, turbidity meters, electronic flow meters, pH meters, chlorine analyzers, automatic chemical and chlorination equipment. Complete preventative and predictive maintenance of our ground water wells and booster pumps assemblies. Problem-solving of PLC, SCADA and motor control systems including variable frequency drives. Electrically maintain and troubleshoot water chemical treatment feed systems. Perform production meter testing and calibrations. Support capital projects managed by the engineering team and coordinate with contractors. Design, modify, and change control systems; program equipment used for water blending, change set points and other system parameters, and perform PLC programming to change control logic on a permanent or temporary basis. Install conduits, wire, pull boxes, switchboards, controllers, and switches required in making additions, extensions or alterations in industrial electrical systems. Estimate time, materials and equipment needed for jobs assigned; requisition materials and works with outside contractors and vendors used to provide SCADA system and instrumentation services or materials. Read and interpret a variety of technical manuals, charts, schematics, blueprints and gauges to troubleshoot instrumentation equipment. Use, operate, and maintain electronic test equipment, computer hardware and software associated with the testing and adjusting of equipment. Provide technical assistance and advice to other staff in connection with the operation of computerized telemetry equipment and other electrical or electronic systems. Work Location and Schedule:
This position will be based at our Covina, California location. The work schedule is a 9/80 schedule, with 9 hours per day on Monday-Thursday and 8 hours per day on working Fridays, with every other Friday off.
This role will also require local travel to other locations within our service areas in Southern California.
What You'll Bring
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Cal-OSHA and OSHA standards, Safety Data Sheets, and work safety standards. Knowledge of the National Electric Code and related safety standards. Knowledge of commercial/industrial electrical and electronic systems and updates. Familiarity with the SCADA system, radio communications equipment, and motor control stations is strongly preferred. Ability to troubleshoot electrical and electronics systems and components. Ability to work safely and properly using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), especially Arc Flash safety gear. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, via phone, and via email. Ability to keep records and prepare reports using a PC and/or tablet. Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships internally and externally. Ability to use Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and the Internet.
Education and Experience
High school degree or GED Completion of a formal electrical program at an accredited college or university preferred Years of experience in the installation, maintenance, repair, and alteration of electrical and electronic equipment, preferably at a water or wastewater facility: Electrical Technician I: 1 year Electrical Technician II: 2 years Electrical Technician III: 4 years Electrical Technician IV: 6 years
Licenses and Certifications
Valid California Class C Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record Water certifications: Electrical Technician I: Treatment 1 (T1) + Distribution 1 (D1) Electrical Technician II: Treatment 2 (T2) + Distribution 2 (D2) Electrical Technician III: Treatment 2 (T2) + Distribution 3 (D3) Electrical Technician IV: Treatment 2 (T2) + Distribution 4 (D4) CWEA Electrical & Instrumentation Technologist Certification (possession of or ability to obtain within 2 years of appointment to position) Electrical Technician I: Grade 1 Electrical Technician II: Grade 2 Electrical Technician III: Grade 3 Electrical Technician IV: Grade 4

Tasks may require considerable physical effort to be performed on a frequent and consistent basis. May require daily travel between work sites greater than 30 miles. Lifting or moving over 50 pounds consistently May stay in one position with little movement for periods of time throughout the day greater than 8 hours.
