We are seeking a Biological Scientist at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:
  1. Independently performs laboratory equipment's to prepare human patient samples for additional studies, including normalizing DNA concentrations, plating samples, measuring concentrations via Qubit, etc.
  2. Leads coordination of sample reconciliation and serves as point of contact for clinical sites collecting and preparing patient samples
  3. Work collaboratively with other biologists and independently on clinical laboratory studies in genetics, including preparing samples for next generation sequencing and array-based genotyping
  4. Thoroughly track sample information in electronic spreadsheets and laboratory notebooks
  5. Troubleshoots equipment's and plans new experiments independently and in teams
  6. Address questions from sites about laboratory requirements and other lab-related questions
  7. Provide reports on project status. Work with administrative/project staff to document project logistics and timelines
  8. Monitor reagents and equipment and place orders and maintenance requests as needed.
  9. Assist in preparing presentations and manuscripts to both internal staff and external community.
  10. Document all experimental protocols in laboratory notebooks for replication and troubleshooting
  11. Assists with drafting and testing new methodologies for projects and manuscripts
  12. Leads decision-making with sites about sample preparation and shipment logistics
  13. Help implement new protocols as needed


REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
  • Bachelor's in biology, genetics, or related field
  • Molecular biology techniques
  • Ability to work independently or in teams
  • Strong organizational skills in both laboratory and record-keeping
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Clinical sample management
  • Experience with Software such as: Microsoft Office Suite, REDCap, Outlook
