Job Summary

Team Leader for New Product Development team, the primary responsibility is to design, develop, and execute New Product Development (NPD) projects for the Waukesha Cherry-Burrell (WCB) product lines manufactured within the Delavan, WI factory to drive sales orders growth, profitability, and vitality index. This includes leading projects and a team of NPD engineers to ideate, research, design, and develop new, next generation, extensions, and enhancements to product offerings that deliver solutions to our customers which are on-time, within budget, and conform to performance specifications. The WCB product lines include pumps, valves, scraped surface heat exchangers, and other fluid displacement equipment serving the processed food, beverage, dairy, personal care, and other and sanitary and industrial applications.

This role has a global scope, and will interact with the Product Management, Sales, Operations, and other cross-functional teams worldwide to ensure engineering standards are met. This is a working manager position, and thus, it is expected this role has experience working in a similar department or new product development teams. Success in this role will involve creating a work environment and culture of innovation, empowerment, accountability, continuous improvement, and bias toward action to deliver results.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Design and develop new products utilizing advanced modeling tools and engineering principles. Making sure NPD projects are meeting its objectives and stage-gate review to ensure project is completed on schedule, within budget and meeting performance, reporting status to supervisor on a regular basis and executive staff on an as needed basis. Supervises activities and resources within the New Product Development team to ensure support is provided to deliver the NPD roadmap. Act as mentor to product development team on how to maximize performance and manage multiple priorities. Document and analyze design feasibility studies, tolerances, FEA (finite elemental analysis), CFD (computational fluid dynamics) reports to ensure product meets requirements. Analyze new materials, technologies, and processes to evaluate functionalities for all new product development or improvement of existing products. Comply with Stage-Gate NPD processes while designing new products and proactively identify and mitigate risks to the project. Develop and review design prototypes, perform lab test plans, and finalize product design to facilitate production to ensure products are meeting requirements and expectations. Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for new product designs. Conduct research and analysis to evaluate new products or improve product performance and efficiency of existing products. Coordinate with the other members of the engineering team to expedite the design process and establish priorities. Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers, and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability. Interface with Product Managers, Applications Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Quality, Purchasing, and other functions of organization during all phases of product development. Foster ideas to build the NPD and R&D pipeline and roadmap with inputs from product management, sales, channel partners, and end-users Perform other product development related duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

People Management experience. Strong hold on engineering principles (mechanics, thermal and fluid sciences) and knowledge of basic manufacturing methods. Proven track record of meeting commitments with the highest level of standards, ethics, and integrity. Proficient with computers, CAD (Inventor/Autodesk) and MS Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to be resourceful, think creatively and analytically, problem-solve, experiment, and adapt, and make bold decisions and recommendations. Proven ability to coach, train and interact with all levels of employees from senior managers down. Outstanding relationship-building skills with the ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, at every level, with customers, suppliers, and employees of the organization. Ability to manage and prioritize competing tasks and projects, strong organizational skills. Must be a team player who can also work independently. Flexibility to handle multiple projects at once and work on projects with the greatest business need. Ability to work with diverse global teams especially from Engineering to Sourcing. Strong work ethics and positive attitude. Energetic with a clear sense of urgency and direction; able to inspire and invigorate associates at all levels; promote concepts effectively.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

10 years of design experience or 4-8 years with master’s degree At least 5 years of people management experience. New Product Design and Stage-Gate process experience Experience with CAD (preferred CAD/PDM system is Inventor/Autodesk Vault). Experience or exposure to FEA, CFD and Heat Transfer analysis tools. Experience working in a precision machining environment. Experience designing pumps, valves, or rotary equipment. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering Experience working in the food and beverage industry (hygienic/sanitary applications)
