This job functions in a supervisory capacity over the Security Department and is co-responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Security Department. Supervises the Security Lieutenants, Security Sergeants and Security Officers of all shifts and is responsible for maintaining adequate staffing levels and appropriate scheduling to cover posts. Supports the Security Director in planning and development of programs, including physical and electronic security and is directly responsible for the day shift command. This job ensures security policies, procedures and services are handled correctly throughout the department, supports safety and security principles and practices, acts as liaison with local law enforcement agencies, provides expert advice to administrative offices in regards to security, and provides guidance and leadership to Security Lieutenants and Sergeants regarding all departmental issues, including enforcement of policies and procedures, human resources issues, and security services provided. Assumes the lead role in investigations of a security incident and assumes a leadership role in emergency response.

Education 

Required - High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred - Completion of Certified Police Officer of Standard Training Policy Academy (state or federal).


Work Experience

Required - 5 years of leadership experience in security, law enforcement, or military.
 
Certifications

Required - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Valid driver’s license and clean DMV report.

Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI), and firearms training.

Preferred - Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of information. Proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals. This position is considered Team A Essential Personnel and must report for duty in the event of a disaster. Ability to work a flexible schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).

Job Duties

Supervises security department and is co-responsible for day-to-day operations under security leadership. Supervises, trains, and develops department staff. Leads investigations of a security incidents. Completes security audits monthly or as assigned in a timely manner according to guidelines. Ensures all security reports are complete and correct within established time frame. Leads emergency response and related preparedness drills. Maintains required annual certifications and completes training requirements within required time periods. Oversees scheduling of personnel to avoid overtime not approved by security leadership. Performs other related duties as required.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care of first aid.
The incumbent has no occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
