JOB SUMMARY:

The Systems Engineer II will use a systems approach to provide architecture definition to product development projects, develop system and solution requirements, identify, and specify critical interfaces, and ensure end products are suitable to meet the needs of their users. They will support planning and executing design verification and validation to verify design requirements are met. Systems Engineers are expected to work influentially by proactively identifying system design gaps and facilitating resolution among a diverse group of project stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL/PRIMARY DUTIES:

Leads Systems Engineering activities collaboratively. Applies creativity, innovation, and problem-solving techniques and communicates ideas clearly and effectively to team. Works collaboratively with marketing and design teams to translate customer and business needs into system requirements. Writes properly formatted system and sub-system requirements by working with relevant stakeholders. Analyzes a set of requirements to ensure full and unambiguous coverage of design needs and goals. Leads and facilitates the project team in establishment of acceptance criteria for requirements (verification and validation pass/fail criteria). Assesses the interaction between humans and systems, and between different systems. Identifies and manages complexity within a system. Identifies, assesses, analyzes risk and opportunities for likelihood and consequence in order to determine magnitude and priority for action. Identifies and controls key design parameters required to track critical aspects of the design during development. Writes or assists in the creation of system design documents. Identifies system and sub-system boundaries on supported project, including identification of internal and external interfaces. Creates and maintains interface control documentation. Identifies different system lifecycle stages (, installation, maintenance, operations, etc.) and the use cases within those stages. Creates operational concepts in coordination with marketing, engineering, and other internal and external stakeholders. Defines decision selection criteria, weightings of the criteria and assess alternates against selection criteria. Negotiates and facilitates resolution of conflicting requirements both internally to a project and externally with project stakeholders. Identifies all stakeholders and their sphere of influence within supported project. Leads the establishment and maintenance of requirements traceability information. Conducts analysis of system architectural design trade-offs. Leads system architecture development for smaller systems. Assists in system architecture development for larger systems. Manages the integration of design specialist activities within a project. Leads creation of verification, validation, and sequencing plans for larger projects. Oversees and conducts system verification/validation activities, recording results, highlighting anomalies, and supporting resolution of any failures. Establishes mechanisms for measuring quality. Leads Product Development Lifecycle Planning activities at the system or sub-system level.

SECONDARY DUTIES:

Assists in technology planning required to provide system or sub-system capability. Assists with identification, solicitation, and selection of purchased system components (both hardware and software). Assists with coordination of concurrent engineering activities on a project. Assists the project lead with development of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) activities leading to project plan and schedule. Prepares Systems Engineering work packages and/or development sprint planning. Assists with identification of components approaching obsolescence and helps conduct studies to identify suitable replacements. Evaluates potential changes to system operational environment or external interfaces. Assists in conducting DOE and other predictive engineering practices to understand impact of design parameters on system outcomes and feasibility of system design concepts. Provide technical leadership within assigned project. Participate in design reviews.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline (, Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Biomedical, or Systems) and - years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Systems Engineering degree or certification preferred.

COMPETENCY/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Design experience within a specific engineering discipline (software, firmware, electrical, mechanical, etc.) and familiarity with the design concerns of other engineering disciplines Demonstrated awareness of critical thinking skills, including integration of assumptions into systems planning and development Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate data driven decision making Demonstrated experience with engineering as a discipline Experience with systems modeling and analysis techniques Effective communication among peers internal and external to the project by developing trust through openness and transparency Awareness of FDA, ISO, and UL regulations and concepts Experience with configuration management processes and concepts Experience with risk-management processes, including FMEAs Ability to collaboratively estimate resources and efforts required for defined work packages Experience with requirements management software tools (Jama, DOORS, etc.) Experience with Lean/Six Sigma is preferred Knowledge of system and software testing methods Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
