Overview & Responsibilities

The position of Manufacturing Engineer provides technical liaison between Manufacturing and Engineering disciplines to ensure a design-to-cost approach and manufacturability within safety and quality requirements. Serves as an integrator of intra-group and inter-group activities, which contribute to capital plan decisions, new product(s) design, adoption of new, more efficient technologies and processes. 

This manufacturing engineering position will primarily work with the tool crib and serve as a tooling specialist for the purchase of new product(s), finding more efficient technologies, drive cost savings, consolidate obsolete tooling and be the direct point of contact of outside tool sales. Additional tasks, such as, developing work instructions and route sheets for component manufacturing operations are included in this job description.

Requirements:

B.S. degree in Engineering or related field, or 5 years equivalent experience.

A minimum of 3 years' experience doing Manufacturing Engineering related work with proven performance to gain knowledge of the total scope of the job.

Incumbent must be familiar with manufacturing processes, tooling, fixture design, must understand N/C methods and CAD/CAM principles.

Exhibits strong analytical skills in defect prevention, root cause analysis, problem resolution.

Good communication skills required.

Responsibilities/Duties:

The position is primarily that of an individual contributor. On occasion the incumbent is capable of training and assisting direct or indirect workers in accomplishing specific tasks, such as operations instructions, changes in processes, etc. Trains Methods Engineer(s) as assigned.

Analyzes detailed D Specs and Quality Plans to identify all special requirements on all shop orders, to ensure correct sequencing of routing.

Provides technical liaison between Manufacturing and Engineering. Issues instructions on new, improved methods of manufacture.

Process route sheets for daily ECC's, NCR's and emergency shop requests.

Works independently to manage route sheet backlog, by prioritizing tasks at hand.

Develops routing for a wide variety of component parts and assemblies, focusing on best practice.

Actively participates in cost reduction activities seeking to lower manufacturing costs.

Interprets Engineering instructions and translate into routing sequences.

Reviews designs for manufacturability, quality, and low cost.

Analyzes complex bill of material structure.

Rewrite routings when necessary, based solely on machine tool availabilities.

Submit tape requests to NC programmers. 

Recommend process changes to reduce lead time and cost.

Performs Value Analysis as required when involved in make/buy decisions.

Assists in tooling requests, recommending and approving tool fixtures and design.

Coordinates efforts to review scrap and rework data to eliminate root cause.

Extracts Oracle data to create Excel backlog spreadsheet. 

Continually upgrades own education, keeping current with state-of-the-art methods of manufacturing.

Assists machine operators with trouble shooting when required.

Fills in for Shop Supervisor when required.

Participates actively in company Quality Improvement Program.

Trains and assist other personnel in accomplishing specific tasks

Daily use of the following software and databases: Oracle, Eigner, Excel, Solutions, Process Specs, Material Specs, P sheets, D specs and Quality Plans.
