The Department of Arts, Culture and Media, School of Arts and Sciences-Newark, Rutgers University-Newark, is seeking an experienced part-time instructor to teach a senior-level Portfolio Development course in the undergraduate Graphic Design program, Fall 2024. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in both the graphic design industry and in teaching at the college level. The position requires a deep understanding of portfolio creation and the ability to guide students in curating and presenting their best work. Candidates with a passion for mentoring aspiring designers and a proven track record in teaching are strongly preferred.Course Description: This course addresses all facets of creating a Graphic Design portfolio by organizing, refining, and presenting a cohesive body of work, while acquiring the skills to navigate and prosper in the profession. Coursework underlines a development and understanding of personal brand identity, aesthetics, design sensibility, and creative process driven by one’s influences and personal expression. Classes balance lectures, discussions, critiques, and student presentations, emphasizing problem analysis; the relation between form, content, and media; as well as design craft and execution.The successful candidate will cover the full range of duties associated with teaching, including, but not limited to, preparing course material; creating and posting a course syllabus; presenting material during the assigned course times; holding office hours and providing appropriate out-of-class time for students; responding to student e-mails; conducting and grading assessments of students through assignments, exams, and other means, in a timely manner; and submitting final grades. Course appointments may require instruction during the day, in the evenings, on weekends, off-campus, online, hybrid, remotely, or any combination of these.
