POSITION OVERVIEW

The Technician/Senior Technician is an integral member of the Reliability team who will support operations and maintenance of all assets within the Pipeline and Midstream group. This includes pipelines, compressor stations, measurement and regulation stations, and associated pipeline systems. Responsibilities will include monitoring, tracking, and reporting of all critical E&I/Control assets in the pipeline organization. Providing advanced troubleshooting techniques where required and performing failure analysis on systems needing repairs. The Technician/Senior Technician will develop and administer maintenance programs for E&I/Control system equipment and will be an integral part of the predictive and preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of all E&I/Control equipment. The Technician/Senior Technician will also be responsible for maintaining lessons learned from all E&I/Control equipment issues and applying these lessons forward to existing and new assets within the Pipeline and Midstream group. A close relationship with all E&I/Control OEMs is to be expected. Dedication, sensitivity to safety issues and compliance with policies and procedures are essential for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the pipeline, measurement & regulation facilities, and compressor facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Review/Design and deploy maintenance programs for E&I/Control systems at all pipeline facilities including specifying maintenance practices, procedures, test equipment, and frequencies. Assist with operations and maintenance personnel at facilities and provide support to ensure that facilities operate safely and efficiently with mechanical reliability being the key objective. Work closely with all OEMs to ensure current maintenance procedures or work practices are effective and improving reliability. Track, trend, and report reliability data of E&I/Control equipment to ensure all facilities are maintained and operated within allowable OEM tolerances.  Develop and maintain an E&I/Control system lessons learned logs for all facilities and associated pipeline systems. Work closely with design/project engineering to report design issues and correcting designs that are proven effective in the field.  Review and evaluate new technology and report findings for potential inclusion on existing facilities and future projects. Lead junior level engineers/technicians in development of critical troubleshooting and optimization skills necessary for all E&I/Control system equipment and building general knowledge of mechanical reliability of all pipeline facilities and systems. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge:

General E&I/Control system knowledge of pipeline and compressor operations, measurement and regulation stations, and associated pipeline systems.

Familiar with: 

Centrifugal gas compressor controls and instrumentation Gas Turbine Driver controls and instrumentation SCADA and communications systems Allen Bradley PLCs Electronic Flow Measurement and Remote Terminal Units Medium voltage electrical systems (up to 13.8KV) OSHA Title 29 CFR 1910.119 - Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals Familiar with other IEEE, ISA, API, ASME, NFPA, NEC, and DOT codes and standards is a plus. Familiar with UPS systems. Familiar with maintenance management principles including predictive and preventive maintenance. Knowledge of PI Process Book or other process data historian. Knowledge of Maximo or other work scheduling/tracking software.

Skills: 

Detail oriented and effective time management and organizational skills. Able to manage schedules and produce results with minimal supervision. Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.  Able to work with OEMs and build strong relationships with OEMs. Organized and able to manage multiple activities and programs timely and with a high degree of accuracy.  An acute sensitivity to safety issues in a hazardous environment. Highly proficient with computers and productivity software including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Project, and PowerPoint).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education and Certifications: Two (2) year associates degree in E&I/Controls or equivalent work experience. Apprenticeship experience is a plus.  Experience: E&I/Control experience in a plant / terminal / or pipeline industry. Technician – Two (2) to Five (5) years relevant work experience required. Senior Technician - Five (5) or more years relevant work experience required.

WORK CONDITIONS

Job is performed both in a typical office environment and at field locations including pipeline facilities, terminal facilities, and hydrocarbon processing facilities. Job is subject to time pressures and constraints and is also dependent on input from others.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, work at height above ground on stairs and catwalks, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear, smell, type and write. Must be able to climb to the top of operations platforms, scale vertical steel ladder up to forty feet or more in height, and lift and move objects weighting up to 30 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work indoors and outdoors, and exposed to year around weather conditions, ocean environment, noise, and occasionally process gases and vapors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required periodically to wear personal protective equipment such as fire-retardant clothing, protective footwear, hearing protection, a hard hat, and safety glasses. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Periodic travel to support field operations and to performing other duties including overnight trips is required. Working extended hours including weekends may be required periodically. Subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal and state regulations.
