Position Summary:

Interprets and transcribes dictation by physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding patient assessment, workup, therapeutic procedures, clinical course, diagnosis, prognosis, etc. in order to document patient care and facilitate delivery of healthcare services.

Responsibilities Transcribes medical dictation to provide a permanent record of patient care. Transcribes reports, letters, memos, and other documents as required. Perform audio or visual transcriptions as needed. Edit reports and acquires proper signatures. Demonstrates an understanding of medico legal implications and responsibilities related to the transcription of patient records to protect the patient and the institution. Operates designated word processing, dictation and transcription equipment as directed to complete assignments. Calls medical reports and distributes/mails reports. Maintains files, records and statistics. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. Attends meetings and serves on committees as required. Demonstrates ability to meet or exceed departmental quality and productivity. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.  Qualifications

Minimum Education:

None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.

Minimum Experience:

Medical Transcribing experience preferred. Must be able to transcribe 90 -120 WPM; must have thorough knowledge of medical terminology; must be able to perform difficult editing.
