PRIMARY FUNCTION : The Master Technician will inspect, diagnose, repair and service mechanical issues on district vehicles and equipment. Work will be performed in compliance with established safety procedures and meeting or exceeding industry estimated times as established by the manufacture. A Master Technician must be able to drive any vehicle in the Fleet, provide assistance supervision to other Fleet Technicians, be available for on-call status as needed. Must be able to assume control of the shop if no other leadership is present, and direct the work of subordinate employees.

WORK DAYS : 250

REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level: Completion of a High School education or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) ASE Master Certification for School Bus

Preferred: Completion of Vocational or Technical school automotive training program

Experience, Skill, and Certification: Five (5) years of experience in school bus or medium/heavy truck maintenance Comprehensive knowledge of heavy duty repair and maintenance techniques and practices Ability to diagnose and repair both routine and the more complex problems on all types of automotive vehicles and components Ability to operate tools and equipment associated with the trade Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Commercial driver’s license with school bus and passenger endorsement within 90 days of employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The Master Technician receives general supervision from the Shop Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor. The employee in this class assists in supervision for personnel in the School Bus repair and maintenance shop. As assigned, discusses vehicle problems with drivers to determine repairs as needed, checks work in progress and inspects completed jobs as necessary. Assists with the inspection, general repair and annual repair, and perform preventative maintenance on vehicles. Follows prescribed daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly maintenance schedule. Inspects, changes, repairs and mounts tires as required. Ensures tires are in compliance with all safety standards. Initiates and maintains computer data entry and retrieval of information related to the work of the auto repair and maintenance shop. As assigned, performs repair and maintenance jobs, provides technical guidance as needed, checks work in progress and inspects completed jobs as necessary. As directed, responds to emergency calls to make determination of severity of problem. Makes repairs and reports to supervisor for additional assistance Assists Shop Supervisor with spare parts inventory and all inventories in vehicle/equipment bid specifications. Must provide own hand tools, and power tools necessary to repair vehicles. Willing & capable to successfully pass training certification and safety programs as required by the District. Must be able to troubleshoot on cameras, Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and radios related to hardware, wiring, and other plug and play troubleshooting. Assists Fleet Technicians by diagnosing more complicated maintenance and repairs work orders as needed. Follows state and district maintenance policies, procedures and regulations. Uses, as instructed, all personal protective equipment. Must be available to work flexible schedule in order to meet critical needs to the district.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on Grade 12 and allowable experience as determined by Human Resources. This is a 250-workday position. This position contributes to the Public School Retirement System of Georgia (PSERS).
