Position Summary

The Assistant Director of the Buell Center is charged with ensuring the vibrancy and well-functioning of the Buell Center, working closely with the Director to set the intellectual direction of the center by developing long-term projects and yearly programming, and also working autonomously to execute and manage the Center’s various editorial and curatorial projects; maintain an internal and external networks of fellows and student employees; oversee the maintenance of the yearly budget, and ensure the Center’s output is disseminated and publicized to a national and international public.

The successful candidate will be highly organized and able to keep multiple projects on track; will have the capacity to consult on thematic content of editorial and curatorial projects and bring the skills and experience to help with writing, editing, curating and directing research-related content.

Performs other related duties, assignments, and/or special projects as needed.

Responsibilities

Project Management (45%)

Acts as project manager for all of the Center’s diverse output, which includes planning and curating conferences, lectures and other events; directing student-based research projects; and working with outside teams on the execution of exhibitions and publications. Oversees the maintenance of the Center's budget and expenditures; helps prioritize tasks for the Program Manager; directs hiring of student employees.

Concept Development: Editing & Writing (20%)

Contributes to the development of new projects and curation of the Center’s written research output; participates in programming when appropriate as a moderator and in other roles.

Outreach and Publicity (10%)

Curates the Center’s public image and voice, works to maintain and grow the Center's national and international public through outreach spanning from within the University to international, professional and academic bodies outside of it.

Constituency Management (10%)

Oversees the Center’s relationships with its various constituencies including postdoctoral, doctoral and associate research fellows; student employees; GSAPP administration and other university entities, especially the Society of Fellows/Heyman Center.

Archive (5%)

Oversees all activities related to the Center's archive, maintaining a comprehensive and vibrant record of the Center's history, materialized in various forms, from the Center's internal "history wall" to inviting scholars to revisit Buell Center history.

Advisory Board (5%)

Oversees relationships with members of the Advisory Board, keeping them abreast of ongoing Center activities and organizing collaborative projects where possible.

Performs other related duties, assignments, and/or special projects as assigned. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or the equivalent required. 3-5 years of related experience. 

Eligible candidates must have a proven record of proactive, persistent, and successful project organization and management within the field of architecture and design. Further, the position requires forward-thinking contributions to professional and academic discourse.

Must have exceptional oral, written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; proficiency with standard office and design software; and an ability to work independently and collaboratively. Must have flexibility, adaptability, attention to detail, and comfort working efficiently on multiple projects simultaneously. The ability to interact and communicate productively with professionals in various areas of the architectural field-academic, practicing, curatorial, and publishing-is also required.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's in Architecture or related field preferred and 4+ years of experience in project management required.
