Job Title: Music Instructional Aide

Reports to: Principal 

Date: 04-29-2024 

Dept./School: Assigned Campus 

 
Primary Purpose: 

Provide music instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified music teacher and/or the district music coordinator. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing of classroom music activities. 

Qualifications: 

Education/Certification: 

Associate’s degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment as required by the No Child Left Behind Act 

Valid Texas educational aide certificate 

Special Knowledge/Skills: 

Ability to assist in instructing music education 

Ability to sing with students and to carry a beat 

Ability to work well with children 

Ability to communicate effectively 

Experience: 

Some experience working with children

Some experience in music, piano, or choir is preferred 

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

Instructional Support 

Provide music instruction to students under the direction of the music teacher or district music coordinator, work with individual students or small groups. 

Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays. 

Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments. 

Help maintain neat and orderly classroom. 

Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment. 

Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports. 

Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers. 

Student Management 

Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty. 

Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students. 

Other 

Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance. 

Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned. 

Customer Care Skills 

Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff, and other professionals at all times. 

Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly.? Take reliable messages, and route to the appropriate staff. 

Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of “going the extra mile” for others. 

Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe. 

Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: 

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment 

Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping 

Motion: Moderate walking 

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) 

Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
