Position Description

Modine's Air Cooled Applications Vertical is one of the original manufacturers of thermal management solutions for vehicular applications (dating back to 1916). The primary focus for this newly-created Venture Tech Business Unit is to rapidly identify and capitalizing on adjacent and new market growth opportunities. The Virtual Tech team will be fast-paced, small and scrappy, and require every member to pitch in for strategy, ideation, etc.
This Engineering Supervisor role requires a good deal of innovation, creativity, and the ability to recruit, lead, and inspire a team of other creative individuals. The role is overall responsible for all aspects of engineering for the Virtual Tech team and tasked with investigating, originating, modeling, prototyping and validating future customer product designs

Key Responsibilities

Leadership: Directly manage a team of 2-3 engineers and 1-2 CAD designers, overseeing assignment of projects and progress of work. Set clear expectations, assign tasks, and ensure the team's success in delivering high-quality results in a timely manner. While we do have an established Modine product development process, we recommend a more expedient scrum or rapid prototyping process for this team.
Employee Development: Focus on the development of your team members through training initiatives, mentorship programs, and performance management. Foster a culture of continuous learning and career growth. Provide guidance, mentorship, and foster a collaborative and positive work environment.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, procurement, estimating, quality assurance, and sales, to ensure seamless coordination and successful project outcomes. Collaboration also extends across the ACA business units and regional teams as well as to other Modine verticals, and external partners (such as research labs, universities, and other technical component manufacturers). Foster strong working relationships and promote collaboration to meet project goals.
Innovation & Product Development: Develop new concepts, systems, components, etc. Determine design alternatives and optimize for cost, durability, performance, and/or manufacturability goals. Specify test requirements and analyze test results on assigning products to validate performance and durability of new and revised designs.
Technical Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation, including design/engineering specifications, project plans, test procedures, DVP&Rs, and reports. Ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation for future reference and knowledge sharing.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines throughout the thermal management product development process. Promote a culture of safety awareness and adherence to relevant standards.
Communication skills (verbal, written and presentations), including ability to translate complex ideas into understandable insights and provide commercially-sound business justification to support executive decision-making
Strategic Planning: Contributing to the development of the organization's overall business strategy based on market insights, industry trends, and potential opportunities. This can include providing recommendations, conducting feasibility studies, and identifying areas for growth or diversification.

Required Education & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required. Proven leadership experience in supervising product development engineers and designers. Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative and positive work environment. Possess a strong understanding of should cost/ cost drivers and be able to provide input on cost estimates and pricing strategies. Strong technical acumen and ability to understand system architecture and articulate complex engineering concepts. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and manage ambiguity effectively. Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts, project updates, and strategic plans to internal and external stakeholders through presentations, reports, and meetings. And be able to tailor communication style to suit different audiences. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a demonstrated understanding of problem-solving techniques, such as 8D. Strong project management skills, including familiarity with Advanced Planning Quality Process (APQP) or similar methodologies. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to thermal management in the automotive industry or another high compliance industry is preferred. Proactive mindset and a passion for innovation and continuous learning. Proven experience in thermal management systems. Knowledge of controls integration in thermal management systems is preferred. Knowledge of CAD software (Creo) is preferred. Willingness to travel domestically (approx.. 10-20% of the time) to support customer meetings, project implementations, and supplier visits.
