The Research group at Dimensional is integral both in the successful day-to-day functioning of the firm and in helping develop Dimensional’s long-term strategy. The team produces high-quality, thought-leadership research on investments and financial markets that is of interest to and helps educate clients. Research is also involved in the design and development of the firm’s investment approach, the application of that approach through portfolio management and trading, and the implementation of technology solutions that makes the investment process more efficient.

Investment Analytics & Data (IAD) is part of the Research department within Dimensional. Data and data analysis are at the underpinnings of how Dimensional constructs and manages portfolios and works to provide the best investment experience possible for our clients. IAD is responsible for ownership of investment data, which means managing data from acquisition through distribution, driving analysis to create information from data, and creating the information and analysis consumed by internal and external reports. IAD is a hub group touching numerous areas of the implementation of the investments process and interacting with most other departments within Dimensional.

Our team seeks an intellectual and creative associate to work on key projects spanning research and portfolio management within Dimensional. The Associate works primarily to support senior staff by architecting, building, and testing application services; assembling, reviewing, and analyzing data; and performing and explaining ad hoc analysis around investment reporting, including portfolio characteristics, index maintenance and attribution performance. Success in the job, including career progression, will be driven by successfully maintaining and improving the operational process and executing on projects to enhance and improve these processes and systems. 

Responsibilities:  

Identify and solve various data-related issues that arise in a fast-paced environment by using your intellect, quantitative reasoning, and computational skills. 

Simultaneously manage numerous individual projects and team-based initiatives that streamline our processes and individual workflows as well as enhance our productivity and accuracy. 

Design and build systems from start to finish and take ownership over the final product, in partnership with Technology teams.

Define requirements and develop new processes in partnership with teams across the organization. This includes file loaders, parsers, task schedulers, data quality checks, and complex business calculators and APIs. 

Create and distribute regular investment reports on fund assets, returns, characteristics, and attributions, using computational tools like Python, Excel, and Microsoft SQL Management. 

Compile and manage large data sets from multiple sources within our SQL Server and Database structure.

Execute regular validations to ensure inputs to Research, Portfolio Management, and Client Reporting are appropriate and accurate. This includes security holdings in our mutual funds, characteristics of individual securities, ESG related qualifiers and exclusions, and other portfolio related data from multiple internal and external sources. 

Interface with investment teams to answer internal and client questions in respect to our investments and strategies. 

Qualifications:  

Bachelor's degree in Finance/Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree OR equivalent 2-3 years of full-time work experience in a quantitative field preferred.

Ability to clearly communicate ideas and solutions to technical and non-technical teams. 

Experience working with large datasets, performing quantitative analysis, and using SQL, T-SQL, or similar data management tools.

Experience in Python is strongly desired.

Experience in using and testing Web APIs is a plus.

Experience with the Agile methodology of software development is a plus.

Experience in articulating requirements to developers.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
