Summary of Position

As a member of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Assistant Director of the IDEAS Center is a student-centered professional who assists the Director of the IDEAS Center with providing strategic leadership and direction to the IDEAS Center. The Assistant Director works to direct programming for the RISE (Reach, Inspire, Support, and Engage) cohort program. The goal of the RISE Program is to increase retention among historically underrepresented student populations through activities that focus on inclusion, success, and engagement. The Assistant Director works under the supervision of the Director and in constructive partnership with other campus partners to recruit eligible students, develop and implement program activities and student services, and support students in building a successful pathway to degree completion through the RISE Program.

As Assistant Director of the IDEAS Center, you will:

Provide educational programs/initiatives that enhances student learning through curricular and co-curricular programs that explore concepts and questions of diversity, social equity, social justice and intersections between forms or systems of oppression, domination, or discrimination in the collegiate experience.Advise, mentor, support, and advocate for students from diverse backgrounds individually and collectively.Provide direct support to a caseload of RISE participants and lead the planning and implementation of mentorship and academic support activities.Assist with the implementation and instruction of seminar-like courses specifically designed to assist RISE participants with connecting to campus resources, graduate school exploration, self-advocacy, and leadership development.tPrepare and maintain mandatory program documentation and records, including but not limited to student meeting records, workshop participation, & integrative development plans.Supervise support staff, interns, and student workers.Develop and nurture partnerships with campus departments to cultivate an inclusive campus climate through a variety of diversity initiatives.Serve as a member of committees and working groups as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

Master’s degree with 3-5 years of related professional experience in program development, project coordination, and/or curriculum developmentEducational background in student affairs, higher education administration, social work, counseling, or other related fieldA proven track record of working with historically and/or systemically underrepresented students such as Pell eligible, first generation, students of color, etc.Demonstrated understanding of identity development and concepts directly related to systemically underrepresented populationsStrong verbal and written communication skills with experience in facilitation/presentationFamiliarity with culturally responsive pedagogies in higher educationDemonstrated research skillsTrack Record of achieving extraordinary resultsStrategic thinking with operational excellenceExceptional ability to influence and build strong relationships

The primary mission of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) is advancing inclusive excellence at Allegheny College by shaping, implementing, and supporting policies, strategies, and initiatives in support of the College’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The ODEI includes the IDEAS Center (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access, and Social Justice) and the Assistant Dean for Institutional Diversity, and is led by the Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

YOUR COMPENSATION

New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.

The expected minimum salary range for this position is $45,000 annually.
