Primary Responsibility

Perform designated service tasks and cleaning routines for the department.

 

Qualifications

1. Education - High school graduate or equivalent education preferred.

2. Experience - Prior experience in food service and/or healthcare preferred.

3. Requirements -

a. Ability to read, understand, and follow written and oral instructions, follow recipe directions, diet orders, tray cards, and work assignments.

b. Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks accurately despite frequent interruptions.

c. Numerical competency for recipe preparation and proper measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals.

d. Coordination and dexterity required to perform food preparation, serving meal trays, handling soiled dishes, cleaning work areas, and

operation of kitchen equipment.

e. Verbal and written skills sufficient to communicate and work effectively with various levels of staff, residents, guests, and the public.

f. Availability and willingness to work flexible hours, such as during emergency situations.

4. Physical Demands - Standing and walking intermittently throughout the day.

Ability to reach, stoop, bend, lift, carry, and manipulate various foodstuffs, supplies, and equipment. Work with chemicals and cleaning agents. Tolerance of exposure to temperature and humidity changes, such as entering cold storage areas, working around high-heat equipment such as ovens, ranges, dishwashing machines, and steam tables.

 

Specific Responsibilities

1. Perform defined work routines, using various dietary utensils, supplies, and equipment, as assigned by Dietary Manager. Work routines may include removing trays from dining rooms once residents have completed meals, taking trays and dishes to dish area, dishwashing, pot and pan washing, cleaning, preparing foods for meal service, plating meals, preparing nourishments/snacks, and serving the dining room.

2. Follow established reporting procedures for the following:

a. Inform supervisor of food, supply, or equipment needs.

b. Any damaged or loose fixtures, flooring, or tiling requiring replacement or repair, as well as any unsafe or malfunctioning equipment.

c. Any conditions conducive to welcoming pests, insects, or vermin.

3. Clean equipment and work areas; complete cleaning schedule as indicated.

4. Assist with maintaining compliance and inspection readiness of department.

5. Be knowledgeable of federal, state, and community's rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

6. Attend scheduled department meetings and inservice educational programs.

7. Follow defined Infection Control and Safety Code while performing all duties.

8. Understand community's fire and disaster plans; follow established procedures during drills and actual emergencies.

9. Perform other department duties or special assignments as assigned.
