Additionally, Moffitt is proud to have earned the prestigious Magnet® designation in recognition of its nursing excellence. Moffitt is a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida, and the leading cancer hospital in both Florida and the Southeast. We are a top 10 nationally ranked cancer center by Newsweek and have been nationally ranked by News & World Report since 1999.
Working at Moffitt is both a career and a mission: to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer. Join our committed team and help shape the future we envision.
Summary
The lab of Dr. Paulo Rodriguez at the Moffitt Cancer Center seeks to recruit Postdoctoral Fellow to join his team. Dr. Rodriguez's research programs focus on the understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms that control leukocyte dysfunction in tumors, with a focus on T cells and myeloid cells, and the central metabolic programs regulating immunity in cancer. The long-term goal of his research is to develop new therapeutic strategies that restore protective immunity in cancer, leading to long lasting anti-tumor T cell immunity.
Dr. Rodriguez current research programs are summarized as following: 1) Identify the primary role of the induction of pathological ER stress as a regulator of the inhibited activity of immune cell subsets in tumors; 2) Elucidate the role of Notch1 in CD8+ T cells in the suppression triggered by tumor-myeloid cells; 3) Determine the central metabolic signatures controlling tumor-induced immune suppression. These strategies are explored through a combination of in vitro approaches using primary murine and human cells, as well as live animal modeling to dissect the pathways underlying the impaired immune responses occurring in cancer.
Position Highlights:
This position focuses on the understanding of the effects of different cellular stress signals in the immune dysfunction occurring in tumor-bearing hosts and patients with cancer. A key component of this effort is the identification of the mechanisms by which tumor-associated stress modulates the function and survival of T cells and myeloid subsets in individuals with cancer, enabling the development of novel approaches to overcome immune suppression in cancer. The Ideal Candidate:
We are especially interested in candidates who have a strong background in myeloid cell and T cell-linked immunology, molecular biology, imaging approaches, and tumor animal models. Experience with multi-color flow cytometry, fixed and live cell confocal microscopy, gene silencing and overexpression technologies in primary cells, viral vector generation, OMICs-based approaches, computational biology, and in vivo models of cancer are preferred. Post-doctoral applicants with strong track record of high-quality research in immunology and excellent publication productivity are requested.Responsibilities:
Expected to participate in multiple academical activities, including the conception and development of experimental projects, troubleshooting of experimental approaches, scientific interaction and mentoring to junior members in the group, and writing and submission of manuscripts and grants. Expected to participate in academic presentations in the group and immunology program.Credentials and Qualifications:
MD or PhD in Immunology or highly related areas.Moffitt Postdocs are provided with Free Employee-Only Medical Coverage effective upon start date and eligible for Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off, Retirement, Parental Leave and more. You may be eligible for relocation assistance per policy. Reasons to relocate, aside from the sunshine, beaches and year-round outdoor recreation associated with the Gulf Coast of Florida, Tampa is a thriving metropolitan city, which has become a hub for ground-breaking research, welcoming individuals from around the globe. This diverse city is engulfed with rich culture, year-round activities for all, beautiful beaches, amazing cuisine and so much more. We strive for work/life balance.
If you have the vision, passion, and dedication to contribute to our mission,
come join a dedicated, diverse, & inclusive team
Interested applicants should send a single PDF file that includes a cover letter summarizing their research training and accomplishments, a personal statement of scientific interests and goals, current CV with recent publications, and contact information for three references to Dr. Paulo C. Rodriguez, PhD at
