The Grants Specialist is under the direct supervision of the Social and Community Services (SCS) Director within the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe. They serve as a key policy advisor and team writer for SCS, with a primary focus on identifying potential grant opportunities, developing compelling grant proposals, and completing all necessary documentation for diverse programs within the Social & Community Services Department. This encompasses identifying potential funding sources and fostering strong partnerships with Youth and Children’s Services, Elders’ Services, Victims of Crime/Survivor Services, Education, Housing Services, Financial Support, and Behavioral Health and Recovery Services. Essential skills for this role include proficiency in policy development, grant research, writing, and management, as well as strong listening and critical thinking abilities. The employee should also excel in small-group facilitation and demonstrate the capacity to work independently and collaboratively within the team, all while comprehending the operational dynamics and requirements of SCS.

What you'll do:

• Understands departmental long-range goals and objectives and how specific policy decisions and grant requests align with these goals & objectives.

• Plays a key role in securing funding by researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals, as well as managing grants and reporting activities for SCS.

• Learns all programmatic needs, including assessing financial gaps, and confers with the SCS Director, managers, and supervisors before making conclusive policy decisions and advancing in the grant process.

• Links existing programs to future programs to facilitate a comprehensive, coordinated effort in meeting the needs of the tribal community.

• Regularly updates and collaborates with the SCS Director regarding policy, departmental, and grant management needs.

• Monitors grants for possible extensions, recasting budgets for grantors, and other tasks that may involve edits and/or updates to open grants.

• Ensures timely completion and submission of all required documents, forms, or reports as stipulated by the grant, adhering to application parameters.

• Coordinates the monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects that are funded by grants.

• Develop and maintain positive relationships with grant funders, including regular communication and engagement.

• Maintains accurate records of grants submitted, received, and pending.

• Travel to and attend conferences to gather insights and establish partnerships, all while ensuring knowledge sharing with the SCS team to bolster grant management strategies and support organizational objectives.

• Assists the SCS Director, when assigned, in inviting, coordinating, and hosting guests, including grantor site visits and other internal or external community departments or agency visits.

• Develops and maintains cooperative working relations with internal and external partners, Tribal committees, and funding agencies.

• Adheres to all JST policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety and work practices as described in the Occupational Exposure Control Plan

• Performs additional SCS duties as assigned.

What we're looking for:

• Bachelor’s Degree.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and budget creation.

• Preferred designations in Grant Writing and Social Work.

• A minimum of three years’ experience in Grant Writing, with additional experience in producing and administering state and federal grants under deadlines, is highly desired.

• At least two years of practical experience in a Social or Human Services environment

• Must possess excellent organizational, coordination, and writing skills, with experience working in simultaneous, often diverse programs.

• Desire and ability to work with people of all ages in social & community services in a close community environment.

• Possessing positive interpersonal skills is essential.

• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, with experience working with computer programs. Business writing and editing skills required.

• Ability to effectively write complex documents, including grants, proposals, budgets, and reports.

• Knowledge of principles, methods, grant writing techniques, budget development, and program evaluation.

• Knowledge of survey methods, basic statistical analysis, and evidence-based and outcome- based program evaluation desired.

• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with a wide range of individuals and groups.

• Ability to build coalitions among groups with differing needs and objectives.

• Knowledge of tribal culture and communities or experience working with minority populations desired.

• Ability to travel locally and regionally as assigned.

• Valid Driver’s License.

• Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background investigation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Local, State, and Federal Laws and Regulations.

• Knowledge of office administrative operations, including personnel management and compliance.

• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

• Demonstrate initiative, work independently with little supervision.
