JOB FUNCTION:

Installs and tests new and existing metering equipment and maintains all meters and related equipment and related equipment pertaining to the Distribution and streetlight systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

FUNDAMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Installs, wires, inspects and tests new and existing meter installations in the field. Uses electrical standard instruments such as ammeter, voltmeter, wattmeter, rotating standard, power factor or phase meter, phase sequence indicators, etc. Installs or works with linemen in the installation of current and potential transformers on high voltage circuits, using heavy tools such as monkey wrenches, stillson wrenches, and pipe tools for cutting or threading pipe; lifts and carries.heavy equipment as required. Reads all types of meters and collects data on all types of recording meters. May be required to do meter records work including transaction edit report. Assists Operations Division with trouble calls in the field. Checks and resets low voltage (600v and below) circuit breakers and replaces low voltage fuses. Directs or checks the work of personnel of lower classifications assigned. Repairs and checks mechanical and electrical metering devices. Checks and calibrates all secondary standards as required. Maintains records for all phases of testing and installation. Does work of lower graded Meter Electricians in field or shop as required.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs similar and incidental duties as required. Assume an emergency management role, as assigned, and perform specific assignments or functions, as needed, in an event of an emergency, not to include routine trouble calls/callouts.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to identify and distinguish different colors and color hues required. Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver's license. Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions stated in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy. Must be able to lift and carry instrument transformers. Must pass Company Written Job Knowledge Test and Job Performance Test. Graduate of Meter Electrician Apprentice Program or equivalent training and experience.

Upgrade Requirements for Senior Meter Electrician, T8

For a new hire in the Meter Electrician position to qualify to take the Senior Meter Electrician job knowledge test, the following requirements must be met:

Have sufficient proficiency in the normal day-to-day activities within the meter shop as determined by the Working Foreman or Supervisor. Activities include working with the ClS, test boards as well as general housekeeping for a minimum of three (3) months. Have sufficient understanding of the various procedures and processes within the meter shop as determined by the Working Foreman or Supervisor. Have proof of successfully completing a qualified meter electrician apprenticeship program. Have proof of at least 3 years of journey worker experience as a meter electrician at another organization. Successfully pass a company written job knowledge test and job performance test. Direct observation by the supervisor or working foreman of the employee's work performance work may be substituted for successfully passing a job performance test. Documentation must be presented to support this requirement.
