Qualifications

POSITION COMPETENCIES

Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and standard practices of the automotive mechanic’s trade, with particular reference to heavy duty operations and maintenance, and fabricating components. Knowledge of safety principles and practices including the use of air powered equipment, heavy equipment, automotive repair and maintenance. Knowledge of automotive electrical systems, heavy equipment hydraulic systems, and computer software. Ability to operate air powered wrenches, tire break-down equipment and mechanical tools for heavy equipment and automotive repair. Ability to manage one’s own emotions and responses. Read and comprehend heavy equipment and automotive maintenance and repair manuals; inspect heavy equipment for common maintenance problems; perform engine tune-ups; replace electrical systems, hoses, belts, specialty parts, and heavy equipment and automotive engines. Ability to use basic math skills. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with the public and other employees. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. Ability to make public presentations. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.

Requirements

EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED equivalency; or two (2) year Associates or vocational certificate in Automotive Technology or closely related field from an accredited program required. Three (3) to five (5) years of technically related experience. Valid Kansas Driver’s License. Must possess a valid Class B CDL (required within 6-months of employment); and A/C Recovery Certification; and ASE Certification (GM & Ford);or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
