We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Machine Operator to join our production team. The Lead Machine Operator will be responsible for overseeing the operation of packaging machinery, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety standards are met. This role requires strong technical abilities, leadership skills, and a commitment to excellence.

  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Global Food Safety Initiative system at Oregon Spice Company. Understand and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP).
  • Accurately and legibly record information on company documents. Follow instructions on work orders, verifying and recording correct materials such as spice blends, bottles, labels, and caps. Identify the correct spice for each order and log lot numbers of products.
  • Operate and monitor packaging machinery, including filling machines, auger systems, check-weighers, metal detectors, cappers, labelers, sealers, and associated conveyors. Set up machines according to product specifications, ensuring proper settings for weight, size, and packaging materials.
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on machinery to ensure optimal performance and prevent downtime. Troubleshoot equipment issues and make necessary adjustments or repairs to maintain production efficiency.
  • Train and mentor machine operators on proper operating procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards. Monitor production processes to ensure compliance with quality control standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including batch records, production logs, and equipment maintenance logs. Collaborate with the Pack Line Supervisor and other team members to optimize production workflows and achieve production targets.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe working environment for all employees. Monitor, document, and adhere to Critical Control Point (CCP) checks and standards multiple times per hour.
  • Communicate material needs to the material handler (F.L. driver) to restock the production line. Clean work areas, equipment, and warehouse regularly to maintain cleanliness and organization.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Basic English reading, writing, speaking and math skills.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in machine operation or related field is a plus.
  • Proven experience operating packaging machinery in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain quality standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and multitask as needed.
  • Leadership skills with the ability to train, coach, and motivate team members.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and GMP guidelines is desirable.
