Department Overview:

HEP is a federal grant program housed in the Center for Multicultural and Educational Opportunities (CMEO) in the College of Education. The main purpose of the HEP Director position is to provide professional leadership and management in the supervision and implementation of the HEP grant. The HEP director oversees the project operations of a federal grant which provides services to participants from farmworker families who wish to obtain a GED and pursue career or post-secondary education opportunities.

Level Scope:

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

Essential Functions:

● Facilitates the delivery of required program services.
● Analyzes data, generates, and disseminates periodic reports (monthly and semester).
● Responsible for interpreting and implementing new and current program regulations determined by the U.S. Department of Education.
● Prepare the Annual Performance Reports.
● Tracks all components with assurances made toward eligibility and numbers of participants.
● Monitor the progress reports and general health of the program, particularly regarding all accomplishments toward meeting fundamental program objectives.
● Provide support to student groups.
● Planning and executing assigned projects and operations within the specified department
● Responsible for interpreting and implementing new and current program regulations within the U.S. Department of Education.
● Monitors budget, including authorization of all program expenditures, and other financial aspects such as providing budgetary reports to appropriate university and federal entities.
● Monitors project progress toward achieving objective and documents program performance.
● Possesses thorough knowledge of relevant program policies and procedures, governing laws, and regulations associated with the grant.
● Evaluation of program staff. Coordinates schedule with staff.
● Provides for staff development.
● Maintains effective working relationships with Federal, State, University, and Community entities working with the grant to ensure project objectives are met. Collaborates with partner agencies to ensure project success.
● Represents the project at Annual Directors’ Meeting with U.S. Department of Education and other similar meetings.
● Other duties as assigned.

● Strong interpersonal and communication (written & Oral skills.
● Knowledge of student learning theory.
● Knowledge of assessment approaches.
● Good organizational, written and verbal communication skills in the preparation and presentation of results.
● Good interpersonal skills
● Able to effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.

Minimum  Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bilingual (Spanish/English).
Master's Degree or Equivalency in Education or related area.
