JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Psychology at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Clinical/Counseling psychology. Area of concentration is open, although expertise in substance abuse, PTSD/trauma, depression, anxiety disorders, aging, interpersonal relationships/social connection, discrimination/mental-health disparities, evidence-based treatments for mental-health disorders, AI/machine-learning applications to mental health research, clinical health psychology and/or mental health outcomes in neurologic/medical populations would complement our department's research focus.

A successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate and master’s level graduate courses in clinical/counseling psychology (e.g. courses on psychotherapy, mental health disorders, clinical assessment & diagnosis), along with additional courses of the candidate’s choosing. Successful candidates will have demonstrated potential for success in securing extramural funding and the ability to supervise, mentor, and involve undergraduate and graduate students in their program of research. Candidates who are licensed or license eligible in the state of California (completion of 1500 hours of supervised post-doctoral experience) are strongly encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. is expected at the time of appointment, but ABD candidates will be considered. The start date for the position is August 19, 2024.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

The newly hired faculty member will have opportunities to teach from a wide selection of our current departmental course offerings, both core and elective courses. Primary teaching responsibilities will serve the program, as well as the . Examples of possible courses for this position include Health Psychology, Addiction and Recovery, Advanced Seminar: Clinical Psychology, Advanced Experimental Psychology: Clinical, Introduction to Psychotherapy, Behavior Modification, Abnormal Psychology; as well as graduate classes in the M.S. Clinical/Counseling Psychology program. Applicants must exhibit a demonstrated potential to publish peer-reviewed research in their area of expertise and express the potential to mentor students in their area of expertise. Applicants must have the potential to supervise thesis students in the and/or the . In addition, qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students across a wide range of disciplines.

Ideally, 1) the candidate's research agenda would have the potential for future extramural funding; and 2) the candidate will have the potential for supervising master-level students in clinical duties in the on campus.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or closely related area awarded by time of appointment. The successful candidate will have the expertise to teach courses in various areas of Clinical or Counseling psychology Evidence of scholarly activity, publications, and innovation. Expected to demonstrate strong abilities in research, teaching, and supervision of undergraduate honor’s and graduate master’s theses. Qualified candidates must demonstrate potential for excellence in both undergraduate and graduate teaching, exhibit research potential as evidenced by engaging in publishable research in their area of expertise and be able to attract and mentor students in their research area.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience teaching at the undergraduate level at a comprehensive university. Experience advising and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, non-traditional students, and first-generation students. Potential or evidence for securing external funding Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and programmatic leadership experience is preferred and should be noted in your application. Licensed or license eligible in the state of California Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued. Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application.
