Overview & Responsibilities
Overview:
Under the direction of the Service Center Manager, this position performs / functions as a technical support liaison for the shop management team, field service and field sales personnel in performance of customer repair projects, shop modernization projects and general engineering and drafting in support of same. The primary objective is to ensure that good and sufficient technical oversight, where required, is applied to mechanical repair and modernization work performed within the Jacksonville Zone.
Responsibilities:
The Turbomachinery Engineer is responsible for the following scopes of work and or deliverables:
Performs engineering and drafting functions in cooperation with shop management.
Assures that repair methodology is sound and appropriate by performing specific engineering functions such as stress analysis
Development of CAD drawings and forms for use in manufacturing and repair projects
Review of technical information and inspection data to support project management in development repair recommendations and equipment modifications.
Works closely with technical services and materials engineering in development of weld repair procedures, coatings and advanced repair processes.
Supports CNC programming, process improvements and development of new repair technologies
Assists project management in the development of customer proposals and work instructions for shop operations
Steward of the shops ISO quality program
Evaluate non-conformances and provide sound engineering dispositions
General troubleshooting of Elliott and other OEM rotating equipment.
Writing and reviewing service reports as required
May travel to customer sites for the purpose of trouble shooting equipment problems, review of repair opportunity or work scope development.
Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education & experience.
Must have computer aided design experience. Experience with AutoCAD and CREO is preferred.
Preferred Skills:
Strong mechanical aptitude for rotating machinery
Understanding of industry related safety standards, as well as systems processes encountered in heavy industry a plus
Knowledge of repair processes and practice associated with turbo machinery.
Ability to read and understand drawings, technical documentation, blueprints, layouts and schedules.
Ability to write technical reports.
Ability to take precision measurements
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, Projects, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes.
