New Canaan Country School is a co-ed, independent day school for students in Pre-K (ages 3 & 4) through Grade 9 living in Fairfield and Westchester Counties. Located in New Canaan, CT, and serving 550 students, our mission is to guide students to reach their intellectual, creative, moral, and physical potential. A talented and devoted faculty engages our students in developmentally appropriate ways, delivering a challenging curriculum that builds intellectual skills and fosters creative and critical thinking. We lead by example and challenge students to fulfill their potential, find their path, and follow their passions whether in the classroom, on the playing fields, on the stage, or serving the community.
The Upper School at NCCS serves students in Grades 7 through 9 and provides them with the opportunity to acquire habits of mind and dispositions including collaboration, analytical and critical thinking, communication, perseverance and risk-taking. The school is now searching for a leave replacement Grades 8-9 Science Teacher to join its faculty from December 2023 through the end of the school year in June 2024; this person will also serve as an advisor.
Responsibilities
Plan, organize and implement Grade 8 and 9 science curriculum Serve as an advisor; develop positive relationships with students and their parents Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, prepare narrative reports and conduct parent conferences Identify student needs and work with other professionals on staff in assessing and helping students solve health, behavioral and learning challenges Participate productively in grade level, department, division and all employee meetings Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the day, such as recess, lunch and breaks, and during field trips and other events Lead other extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, such as clubs Option to coach sports for the winter and/or spring seasonsRequirements
Ability to teach Grade 8 Physical Sciences (basic chemistry and physics) and Grade 9 Biology; a candidate’s content expertise may inform the courses ultimately assigned to the position. Ability to connect with students at the middle school age level (12-15 years old) Relevant experience teaching and assessing student learning in Grades 7, 8 and 9 Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or universityDesired Qualities
