Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Research & Sponsored Programs, the Grants Writer will work with a number of key administrators, faculty and staff across the institution to provide the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) with expertise in authoring and revising grant proposals and concept papers, online applications and other grant-seeking proposals seeking documents including the development of proposal budgets. This will include identifying, drafting and editing of Private/Foundation, Federal, and State grant proposals; identifying grant opportunities; developing grant proposals; developing research systems, procedures and/or guidelines for grant activities; and generating the necessary reports to meet internal and external auditing and compliance requirements. 

This is a full-time, non-classified position with full state benefits and is exempt from FLSA provisions regarding overtime. Not all activities of this position occur within the confines of an 8:00-4:30 schedule and will require regular evening and weekend scheduling. The weekly schedule for this position will be established between the supervisor and the employee and approved given the needs of the department and the institution. This position is eligible for a telework agreement (hybrid or full-remote). Some travel including overnight travel may be required. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.This position has been designated as Essential. Education/Knowledge Minimum Education Master's Required Licenses/Certification Skills Required Master’s degree (PhD preferred) from an accredited college or university in Organizational Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, or other appropriate disciplines. The position requires a minimum of three years of progressively increasing responsibility in grant writing within public, nonprofit educational, foundation, state and/or federal programs or agencies. A combination of education and recent and relevant grant writing experience may be considered. 

Excellent interpersonal skills required for communication with all entities across the campus community and with external agencies. Demonstrated ability to write and edit; meet deadlines; manage multiple, complex priorities; and work both independently and as part of a team. Must be detailed oriented. Must have mastered Word (creation of long, multi-section documents), Outlook, and Excel. Duties and Responsibilities Duties and Responsibilities Identify, write, apply for and manage grant proposals through state, federal and private resources including foundations that are relevant to WVSOM. Work collaboratively with departments across WVSOM, Center for Rural and Community Health (CRCH), WVSOM Foundation, and WVSOM Alumni Association to obtain information on the development and status of projects and major program initiatives that may require or be appropriate for grant funding. Prepare interim and final progress reports for funders and work cooperatively with other departments to manage the full reporting process. Work with appropriate administrators to ensure that all grants pursued and received are in line with WVSOM’s goals, objectives and directives, as well as all pertinent state and higher educational policies and budget. Maintain accurate documentation and records for execution of contract terms, and ensure compliance to grant requirements and laws. Prepare statements of work, budget revisions, and change orders for existing and future WVSOM grants. Review potential grant opportunities and help determine which applications are appropriate for each WVSOM related entity. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundations for support of academic and community health programs, scholarships, and faculty research. Work with WVSOM Foundation Development staff to secure required matching funds for large, private foundation gifts. Assist WVSOM partner entities, such as the Greenbrier County Health Alliance and Robert C. Byrd Clinic, with identifying and applying for grant funding. Coordinate with partner organizations and assists with grant applications in which WVSOM is a potential subcontractor or subawardee. Help secure appropriate letters of support for applications as necessary. Develop long-term partnerships while expanding existing relationships and creating new relationships. Provide and/or work with Principal Investigator (PI) or Project Director (PD) to gather relevant demographic and other required data for grant applications as appropriate. Follow department, institutional, state and federal policies and procedures relative to grant submission and reporting. Work with the PI and/or PD to help create statements of work, logic models, timelines, and budgets for grant applications. Track grant application deadlines, grant application submissions, successful applications and amounts awarded, reporting deadlines, and other data for planning and reporting purposes. Demonstrate superior writing and critical thinking abilities. Demonstrate proven online research skills. Complete other related duties as assigned. Required Experience
