About the role

Managing Pit-to-ROM Coal Quality

This role will be critical in the development and implementation of the grade control management system at Olive Downs Complex. Industry leading, innovative and advanced technologies and techniques will be implemented. This role suits candidates who want to push the boundaries of established mining practices and lead the global mining industry in resource recovery, reconciliation, and management.

Updating & Maintaining the Geological and Run-Of-Mine Models

At Thiess we understand that accuracy in all areas of mine design and scheduling, resource recovery, and ultimately, budgeting begins with precise geological models. You will be responsible for overseeing the acquisition and processing of blast-hole geophysics and strata recognition data, updating structural models using 2D seismic, downhole data, and highwall scans, and updating the Run-Of-Mine Block model incorporating various mining assumptions and logic using Python scripting within the Vulcan Integrated Stratigraphic Modelling suite.

Geotechnical Hazard Management

This role will work with the operations team to monitor and manage geotechnical hazards in line with the Geotechnical Principal Hazard Management Plan.

Tertiary qualifications in Geology or similar, complemented by relevant experience working in an operational mining environment, preferably open-cut coal A solution-based approach to dealing with challenges Strong computer skills preferably including Geological Modelling exposure (Vulcan) Ability to think strategically and act decisively Solid problem-solving and good written and verbal communication skills Knowledge of mine operations regulatory and legislative requirements Previous experience in mining geomechanics is highly regarded
