This is a contracted position. 

 

The Chaplain will provide a support system to patients and their loved ones. Act as a spiritual counselor to staff members and serve as spiritual liaison to the external community. The position will also collaborate with Huntsville Hospital's Palliative Care program and provide spiritual care at the end of a patients' life. The Chaplain will offer ministry and spiritual guidance to patients, family members and caregivers within the hospital setting working in an interfaith environment using a non-denominational style of counseling. The Chaplain may perform specific religious duties related to the faith they were ordained in, for example, administration of last rites. Due to the sensitive nature of the work, all chaplains will be held to a high standard of ethical behavior, professionalism and confidentiality. Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Theology required with a concentration in Seminary. Clinical pastoral education preferred.
Experience: Licensed or ordained minister by a recognized faith group. Must have blessing/approval/commissioning of faith group or congregation. Five years experience preferably in a healthcare environment.
Additional Skills/Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills, strong leadership skills, Ability to establish rapport with others through effective listening skills, Ability to work as a team member and communicate relevant patient care information to appropriate health care staff. Self-directed and able to manage multiple priorities/projects at a time. Willingness to work with and meet the spiritual needs of people of all religious faith, age, gender, sexual orientation, race, and ethnic backgrounds. Ability to communicate respectfully across cultures and with persons of different faiths is a valued asset. Ability to deal with the stressful nature of hospital work .Ability to discern opinions from facts in patient documentation. Ability to maintain a calm demeanor. Ability to work independently and be flexible when faced with multiple priorities. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written. Excellent organizational skills and exhibits diplomacy and time management skills.
