We are seeking an Assistant Controller to join our growing finance team. This role will be responsible for assisting with financial reporting, general accounting, budgeting, and supporting the financial operations and its portfolio companies. The Assistant Controller will work closely with senior finance leadership, providing insights to optimize financial performance and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.


Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for both Guernsey Holdings and its portfolio companies, with a focus on GAAP compliance.
  • General Accounting: Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
  • Financial Analysis: Assist in analyzing financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for operational efficiency and cost savings across the portfolio.
  • Compliance & Internal Controls: Ensure adherence to internal controls and financial policies. Assist with audit preparations and tax filings in collaboration with external auditors and CPAs.
  • Transaction Support: Support the finance team with due diligence and integration processes related to acquisitions or investments.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency in accounting workflows, particularly around high-volume transactions in a multi-unit environment.
  • Payroll: Assist with payroll processing for restaurant employees, ensuring compliance with wage and hour laws.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Controller and other team members to deliver timely and accurate financial information to senior management and investors.


Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2-4+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a private equity, family office or QSR environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial reporting systems, accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite), investor reporting software (e.g., Juniper Square) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with GAAP, tax regulations, and compliance requirements in the restaurant or hospitality industries is a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with attention to detail.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working within the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry or a similar multi-location, consumer-focused business.
  • Familiarity with private equity-owned companies and the financial reporting requirements in this sector.
  • Experience in supporting the financial operations of a portfolio company, including cost analysis, budgeting, and performance tracking.
