Description

Hours: This position will cover weekend days with the option of covering occasional week days.

Under the direct supervision of a Physical, Occupational, Recreation or Speech Therapist, assists with the provision of basic therapeutic services and other patient related activities. Performs simple administrative, clerical and maintenance tasks in support of department/program operations. Assists with the scheduling of patients for therapy to maximize efficiency and provide for optimal patient care. Maintains orderly work areas, including stocking linens. Assembles and prepares equipment and devices for treatment sessions and returns the equipment to its designated area. Cleans and maintains department equipment to ensure its maximum operational efficiency; reports unsafe or defective equipment to supervisor for immediate repair. Follows federal, JCAHO, CARD and organizational mandates and universal practices for infection control when handling soiled or contaminated items to ensure a safe work environment. Observes the patient for physical or emotional changes which may indicate an adverse change in condition; communicates significant changes to the appropriate member of the medical care team. Under the direction of a therapist, may assist with therapies and treatments including but not limited to exercise, ambulation and daily living activities. Transfers patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, beds and to and from treatment facilities within the hospital. Assists therapists with the fabrication of splints and other specialized devices and with the modification of specialized equipment. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Practices universal and/or specialized precautions in the daily cleaning and sterilization of work surfaces, equipment, and/or instruments.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma or equivalent. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
