Job Description

The position oversees staff support for all aspects of both academic services and the student experience for the School of Information Studies (iSchool). This includes supervision of the following offices: Student Services, Career Services, Enrollment Management, Academic Affairs, and Faculty Affairs.

The Assistant Dean for Academic and Student Experience will be a key member of the Dean’s Leadership Team, working with senior faculty and staff leadership to ensure the iSchool operations are efficient and effective. Responsible for ensuring effective communication with all relevant constituents, a focus on continuous improvement and collaboration within and between units, and cross training and professional development of staff.

The Assistant Dean will serve as a key advocate for both staff and students in the iSchool as well as a key liaison with other offices across the university. This is a senior level position reporting to the Dean of the School. Qualifications Master’s degree required. Minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience in an academic setting, preferably in a student services division. Job Specific Qualifications Requires superior organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and professional oral and written communication skills.Experience in development, enhancement and execution of innovative programs and services.Demonstrated ability to work closely and collaboratively with a diverse student body, staff, and faculty to achieve highly effective outcomes.Sound judgment and discretion sufficient to build relationships with students and colleagues that foster trust and cooperation.Ability to complete tasks in an expeditious and courteous manner.Works to build an environment that promotes and facilitates the success of Diversity and Inclusive Excellence.Must be a dependable, responsible contributor committed to excellence and success. Flexibility to work outside the normal assigned schedule when requested. Responsibilities Supervise Assistant Dean Student Support Services and their staff to ensure quality advising services and programming provided by the iSchool’s Student Services Office. This includes timely and informative School-wide communication to students, faculty and staff regarding registration, mid-semester progress reporting, deadlines, and processes as well as online grading. As well as evaluating new and innovative ways to reach students and improve advising services to benefit students and faculty. Evaluate and assess success of student experience programming annually and adjust where/when needed. Work closely with Assistant Dean Student Support Services to ensure iSchool rules and requirements are met. Serve as liaison between School leadership/faculty and Advising Office, sharing curriculum changes and other policies and decisions that affect student advising.Serve as primary student advocate for the iSchool overseeing student-related issues and concerns. Serve as contact/adviser for faculty on student related issues, working with Program Directors and Associate Deans toward resolution. Supervise Student Services in meeting with and supporting students in academic jeopardy; aiding students in crisis; supporting students through the academic integrity process and handling parent calls and issues.Supervise Opening Weekend activities for the iSchool. Oversee management of student organizations, lectures, scholarships, and other activities. Collaborate with other members of the Senior Leadership team around student experiential learning activities.Supervise Director of Career Services and oversee quality of services and programming provided by the Career Services Office. Provide coordination of services between Student Services Office and Career Services Office. Oversee the planning and implementation of Career Treks.Supervise Director of Admissions and Recruitment and oversee quality of recruitment and programming provided by Office of Admissions and Recruitment. Work with Director to identify admissions needs and serve as liaison between iSchool’s Dean and University senior leadership to establish and communicate recruitment goals. Provide support in updating iSchool’s message to prospective students. Work closely with Director of Admissions and Recruitment to identify student populations that need attention regarding recruitment.
