Position Summary:

The Assistant Comptroller works closely with the Comptroller as well as the Chief Financial Officer in order to perform and accomplish accounting related duties. These duties include but are not limited to the annual financial statement audit, routine financial reporting for executive administration and the Board of Trustees, annual University tax forms, and assistance with the development of the University’s budget.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure successful completion of the annual financial statement audit by tracking all audit requests and serving as a primary client contact. Responsible for key audit areas including net assets, investments, annuities, financial statements, and maintenance of the trial balance. Produce financial reporting and analysis for the University’s Board of Trustees and executive administration. Oversee proper recording of monthly investment activity to the general ledger for the University’s endowment portfolio of over $188 million. Aid in the preparation and submission of University tax forms including Forms 990, 1099-NEC, 1099-Misc, 1099-R, and 1042-S. Perform monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, interfund and due to/from accounts.  Oversee appropriate accounting for international students’ financial awards and tax reporting. Ensure accurate reporting of IPEDS data in a timely manner.  Plan, organize, coordinate, monitor and supervise University payroll function. Responsible for supervising assigned staff and managing the day-to-day operations of the division. Analyzes, develops, and recommends improvements to the payroll system. Ensures accurate disbursement of funds for payment of salaries. Monitor compliance with approved policies and procedures including University, state, and federal regulations. Finance and Payroll Project liaison for IT related projects with management, IT, and systems support staff.  Develop, test, and implement new and/or updated system processes and improvements to processes increasing efficiency. Understand internal controls and mitigating factors within Accounting Department.  Assist in the development of the University’s budget of $300+ million. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor. Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, and Information Security, including, but not limited to; FERPA and other state and federal mandates. Education/Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Business Administration, Management, or related field required. Master’s degree and/or Licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred. Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively with all groups through both oral and written channels. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and working with data within Excel required including Pivot Tables, Sumifs, Name Ranges, Conditional Formatting, Text to Columns, and querying understanding. Comprehensive computer skills, with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology. Proficiency inMicrosoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and common methods of digital communication such as web conferencing, web/text chat Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy, and discretion in dealing with trustees, faculty, staff, students, and high-level University officials. Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people. Exercise professional judgment in complex, new, and/or stressful situations. Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines. Adaptability, flexibility, and a willingness to work in a changing environment.
