NATURE OF WORK This classification involves manual work and services for the City. An employee in this position performs routine manual work in construction, maintenance, and repair of buildings, streets, sewers, water lines, and other installations; sprays foliage, trims trees, and performs other landscaping duties; assists with concrete work; installs signs and erects barricades; digs ditches; levels dirt and asphalt; and loads/unloads trucks. This position also sweeps walks; picks up litter and brush; and cleans/washes vehicles. 

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 

Performs unskilled and semi-skilled tasks related to maintenance and repair of stormwater and wastewater operations. Operates maintenance equipment and power tools such as small tractors, rotary brush trimmer, weed trimmer, mowers, edgers and blowers, and maintain hand tools and assigned equipment in good working order. Maintains swales and open ditches as required to maintain good system operation.  Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner, provide information within the area of assignment, or forward to supervisor in efficient and timely manner. Operates and maintains an assigned vehicle including fuel, oil and notification of repairs as needed. Responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the surrounding areas of the stormwater stations. Loading and transporting of equipment, materials, pumps, and any other supplies in preparation for work. Investigates complaints and communicate plan of action to Town officials and the public. Maintains hours log of wastewater and stormwater stations activities. Participates in regular meetings where work assignments are issued. Conducts emergency preparedness activities in the event of a natural or man-made disaster, and serve as essential personnel before, during, and after for relief and clean-up efforts. Regularly on-call for emergency situations related to wastewater and stormwater issues. Abide by general safety practices while conducting daily work, including wearing protective equipment such as eye/face protective gear, ear protection, gloves, steel-toe boots, and other equipment as necessary based on the tasks. Promotes a culture of safety within the organization. Performs related work as required.

Requirements


EDUCATION
  Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalency diploma PROOF OF HIGHEST LEVEL OF COMPLETED EDUCATION MUST BE SUBMITTED AS AN ATTACHMENT WITH APPLICATION . (Applications without attached proof of education will not be processed for consideration.)
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
One (1) year of fulltime work experience in Building Maintenance or Public Works (Grounds, Streets, and/or Stormwater) maintenance and/or repair functions. 

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; CDL preferred.  Must obtain a valid Florida driver’s license prior to hire. Ability to acquire an Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic certificate within 6 months

Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often outdoors under varying climatic conditions.
