Riverside, CA • ID: 1921-723 • Full-Time/RegularThe Associate Provost for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging serves the DEIB office at La Sierra University. This office provides spiritual, administrative, and academic leadership in promotingequity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, vision, resources, and programming within the context of the mission and values of the university. The Vice President for DEIB promotes and implements the equity and diversity and strategic directionset for the university. The Associate Provost for DEIB reaffirms and fosters a university community and campus climate that values and actively supports equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. The Associate Provost for DEIB will collaborate with senior academic and administrative leaders. Additionally, they will work within the university andexternally with our community partners, to shape, promote, and implement our strategic direction within the context of the Gospel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
●Lead strategic diversity planning initiatives, including creation of assessment tools, evaluation, and accountability measures.
●Support and cultivate awareness, appreciation, and engagement with both national and international diversity and its relevance in a university environment.
●Encourage and promotea campus environment that seeks to resolve conflict through reconciliation and healing as understood in the Gospel.
●Work directly with university leadership on the development and implementation of policies and initiatives that promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
●Develop strategic partnerships, alliances, and collaborations with key constituencies.
●Collaborate with academic and support departments to establish and uphold an inclusive campus environment.
●Assume a leadership role in developing and coordinating various diversity committees, programs, and task forces through active leadership and advocacy, including serving as the chair of the university's DEIB Committee.
●Work with the university and surrounding community entities to elevate the visibility and maximize the impact of campus diversity efforts, activities, and programs, including student international and ethnic clubs and organizations.
●Coordinate and develop diversity training in collaboration with other offices and departments.
●Implement and coordinate multicultural initiatives, such as multicultural mentoring.
●Identify barriers to recruitment and retention of underrepresented populations and support strategies to overcome these barriers for students, faculty, and staff.
●Collaborate with the Office of Human Resources and relevant administrators regarding university diversity issues, including search and selection processes.
●Encourage and assist with the curation of diversity initiatives into the instructional content of new and existing courses, within the co-curriculum.
●Help secure external funding related to diversity research and initiatives.
●Work with the university to create and maintain a philosophy of diversity and inclusion that is fully reflective of the gospel.
Required Qualifications:
●Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
●Graduate degree or higher required.
●A minimum of five years of proven professional experience is required in designing and leading initiatives related to institutional access, diversity, inclusion, multiculturalism, and educational and employment equity. This includes proficiency with the latest scholarship in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
●Ability to provide spiritual guidance to team members in order to achieve various goals, uphold the values of the university, and instill those same values in their team.
●Ability to exercise diplomacy to engage others in productive and civil dialogues that advance diversity efforts.
●Record of working collaboratively with academic and administrative colleagues at all levels, and with diverse external communities, to facilitate positive and collaborative processes and initiatives.
●Possesses exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, along with the ability to effectively engage with a diverse range of constituents, complemented by strong analytical and organizational abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
●Demonstrated visionary skills and the ability to oversee strategic planning and organizational development efforts relating to institutional change.
●Demonstrated experience advocating for, and leading change efforts related to, institutional practice and policy.
●Experience internationally that included effective cross-cultural engagement preferred.
Technical Competencies:
Computer literate and proficient in MS Office, particularly Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel. Must be able to create and manage an electronic filing system. An understanding of strategy and tools needed for social media-based communication.

Physical Demands:
Minimal physical requirements. Must be able to move within and between campus buildings at all times of year. In the course of performing their duties, the employee is frequently expected to sit, type, reach, and engage in conversation or listen. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. Some lifting may be required, up to 30 pounds on occasion. This position may also involve extended automobile and air travel.
Work Environment:
The following work environment characteristics represent the atmosphere an employee will encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Works primarily in rooms with appropriately functioning air handling equipment except with traveling or in off-campus assignments. Is interactive with other campus departments and personnel. Annual Salary:
$78,192.60 to $96,000.00, plus generous benefits
