Responsibilities:
The Associate Director, Manufacturing and Corporate Initiatives Communications is a critical member of the reputation management team. The position is responsible for developing and implementing external communications plans in support of our manufacturing and quality organizations, in close collaboration with colleagues focused on internal manufacturing and quality communications to create comprehensive plans, as we work to bring our medicines to millions of patients around the world. In addition, the position will lead external communications around other enterprise-wide announcements and initiatives (e.g., LillyDirect) that help advance Lilly’s corporate narrative and protect the company’s reputation.
This role will work closely with cross-functional colleagues in Global Communications, the Global Customer Office, the Manufacturing and Quality organizations, global Lilly affiliates, and colleagues in different therapeutic areas.
As a skilled communicator with experience navigating the complexity of a highly matrixed structure, the Associate Director will also be responsible for providing strategic counsel to Lilly business partners.
This role reports to the Senior Director of Corporate Communications.
Partner with various communications colleagues to develop and implement well-rounded 360 communications plans to support Lilly’s manufacturing and quality agenda to bring medicines to patients around the world engage with LillyDirect strategy team, to inform recommendations around external communications plans and tactics. Lead development and implementation of communications plans, partnering with communications colleagues, and liaise with third-party partners Lead issues management around relevant topical areas (e.g., manufacturing), in partnership with reputation management colleagues including strategy, standby statement and QA development and engagement with other functions as needed (stakeholder cascade, employee and/or social/digital communications) Develop proactive and reactive messaging and content to support business priorities, as including but not limited to proactive pitch emails, press releases, key messages, standby statements, Q&A, fact sheets, infographics, backgrounders, videos, etc. Inform and support media outreach activity, such as reporter bios and lists and media outlet backgrounders Work collectively with business partners to handle and respond to media inquiries; Partner with extended communications team on sophisticated inquiries or story opportunities Evaluate and recommend new ideas to drive Lilly’s voice externally; strategically connecting dots Partner with and provide direction to external agencies and vendors, as needed Use metrics to adjust content and tactics for uninterrupted improvement. Flex to support other projects and areas of the corporate communications team, as needed.
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field Pharmaceutical or healthcare experience and expertise 7+ years of external communications experience, within corporate or public relations agency environments Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Additional Skills/Preferences:
Strong understanding of traditional media landscape and its intersection with social and owned. Known to work interacting with reporters Ability to work quickly and with urgency under deadline Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry and supply chain, communications experience with manufacturing organizations a plus Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams across a matrixed organization, establishing strong working relationships Superb verbal and written communication skills Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills Highly organized, entrepreneurial problem solver with the ability to lead multiple tasks Ability to be a flexible teammate, act quickly and meet deadlines with the highest ethical and business standards Innovative and creative Consistent record in providing strategic, persuasive and appropriate communications counsel Professional presence handling ad-hoc issues, performing with a expedience Meticulous attention to detail, with ability to grasp and focus on the big picture Project management capabilities that include process development and improvement, communications of standard processes, and measurement
