Goshen College invites applications for an Admissions Counselor for Traditional Undergraduate Programs. This position is responsible for carrying out key portions of recruiting traditional undergraduate first-year students to Goshen College. Counselors are responsible for knowing and implementing best practices in recruitment and admission in order to enroll new students at Goshen College. Must be driven by the desire to help others improve their lives through the pursuit of higher education.

Essential Functions

Recruitment and Student Engagement (40%): Takes primary responsibility for student recruitment and enrollment of prospective students in assigned markets and territory (or as otherwise assigned by the Director.

Positive relationships are built with prospective students and families.Meaningful, engaging, and effective conversations are facilitated through direct (phone and in-person) and indirect (email and social media) channels to move prospective students forward in the admissions process.Communication with prospective students and parents is documented in the department CRM.Weekly call and outreach goals are established and achieved.Weekly call nights are identified in advance and completed.Leverages key alumni via Alumni Relations that can assist with recruitment efforts

Territory Development and Management (20%): Takes primary responsibility for developing and maintaining relationships with high school personnel, churches, GC alumni, and friends in assigned markets. Also for developing and maintaining reports related to recruitment markets.

Key individuals and organizations are identified and contact information is updated annually.A plan is developed and executed on how those relationships will be developed and maintained.An assigned travel schedule is executed to maximize recruiting opportunities.Represents Goshen College at various events to create GC awareness, increase GC footprint, strengthen the center of influence relationships, and generate inquiries.Completes weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports as designated by the Director of Admissions.Completes annual reports for each market.

Application and Enrollment Completion Process (30%): Takes primary responsibility for understanding the admission requirement and influencing assigned students to progress through the admissions process. Utilizes available data to appropriately track progress to reach goals.

Understands the admission requirements and application and enrollment completion processes. Assists students with these processes.Ensures students submit all required documents through effective and timely follow-up.Review all application materials for admissions decisions.Maintains necessary communication with the Admissions Operations team to ensure all documents are submitted and tracked.Guides admitted students through appropriate and applicable next steps.Creates and reviews reports to appropriately track admitted students, submitted applications, and incomplete applications.End-of-recruitment-cycle goals for a number of applications, admitted students, and enrollment deposits are met for assigned markets.Responsible for understanding basic concepts of financial aid and communicating that information to prospective students, parents, counselors, and others.Knowledge of the FAFSA process and effectively communicates student financing options (scholarships, grants, loans, work-study, etc.) to prospective students and families.Promote achievement scholarship opportunities to eligible student

Academic Partnerships (10%): Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with faculty to help recruit and enroll students within their respective programs.

Maintains foundational knowledge of all GC programs, majors, and minors.Positive relationships are cultivated with key faculty and staff in each departmentActively seeks to better understand programs/majorsAttends monthly Faculty/Administrative Faculty meetings to provide updates, identify recruitment opportunities for faculty, and provide training as needed. Program updates are shared with admissions leadership and staff.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Admissions Counselors have the opportunity to supervise student employees which may include:

Education and Experience

Required: Bachelor’s degree

Preferred: Two years prior experience in higher education, preferably in the area of enrollment

Skills and Competencies

Required:

Proven ability to relate and collaborate with a wide cross-section of campus administrators, employees, alumni, and students. Self-motivated. Solutions oriented. Establishes priorities and effectively implements and follows through. Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and intermediate computer literacy. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from prospective students and/or parents, the campus community, or external constituencies. Embraces the mission, vision, and values of Goshen College and GC Admission.

Preferred:

Ability to communicate at a basic level in Spanish.

Special Requirements

Must hold a valid driver’s license. Travel required related to student recruitment events, professional meetings and relevant college business. Travel could include overnight and/or extended stay. Evening/night/weekend work required in representing Goshen College at recruitment events. Also required in order to contact student during time frames that are more suitable to their schedules.
