Job Summary:

The Respiratory Therapist is a professional member of the healthcare team who provides skilled respiratory care to the residents.

Qualifications:

oGraduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program

oRespiratory Therapist certification is listed as Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Illinois.

oCurrent licensure in good standing

oEvidence of one year of skilled experience within the past two years.

oPossesses thorough working knowledge of anatomy, general medical conditions, general therapies and interventions.

Requirements:

oDevelops plan of care based on assessment data and standards of care.

oPerforms therapy modalities as ordered by physician and according to training and experience.

oPerforms therapy modalities as ordered by physician and according to training and experience.

oOperates all equipment according to policies, procedures, and guidelines.

oDifferentiates between patient and equipment problems and intervenes appropriately

oDocuments and communicates all patient concerns during shift.

oManages a safe environment

oDraws arterial blood gases and interprets arterial blood gas and oximetry results.

oPerforms tracheal and nasopharyngeal suctioning including the instillation of pharmacologic agents.

oSelects, assembles and checks the equipment for proper function, operations, and cleanliness. This includes mechanical ventilators, CPAP systems, oxygen systems, manual resuscitators, suctioning equipment and tracheal tubes.
