Scientific Drilling is looking for a IT Specialist to join our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in IT systems and infrastructure, along with experience in creating professional documentation and process guides.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain network, servers, backups and backup media.
  • Resolve problems in software and hardware components and technologies.
  • Performs upgrades, updates, patches, and general maintenance tasks on servers, network, voice and data switches.
  • Uses logic to solve problems with effective solutions
  • Loads appropriate software packages such as operating systems, networking components.
  • Identify and recommend systems upgrades including sourcing and costing.
  • Contact and manage vendors regarding major hardware or software problems or defective products.
  • May be required to work overtime, on-call as needed in response to outages planned and incidental.
  • Develop training materials and procedures and train users in the proper use of hardware or software.
  • Train and mentor team members.
  • Provide telephone, in-person, and online support to end-users
  • Installs, modifies and makes minor repairs to personal computer hardware and software systems, and provides technical advice and support to system users.
  • Assist in the customization and adaptation of existing programs to meet users' requirements.
  • Install hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives on users' premises.
  • Confer with staff, users, and management to establish requirements for new systems or modifications.
  • Adhere to safety standards with Company HSE policies.
  • Manage work station and practice good housekeeping techniques.
  • Pursue every job with drive and determination.
  • Use logic to solve problems with effective solutions.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the needs of the business.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Proficiency with Unix/Linux, Microsoft Windows XP - 7, OpenLDAP/ Active Directory. Vast knowledge of Cisco IOS, Watchguard, or Vyatta router/firewall platforms.
  • Proficiency with IPv4 and IPv6.
  • Must be available for on call/afterhours emergencies and participate in a rotating on call schedule.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and able to work leaned or crouched over for extended periods of time.
  • Must possess excellent customer-service skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with end-users, written or verbal.
  • Ability to work in fast paced and results driven environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Learn quickly and adapt to new problems and situations.
  • Ability to present oneself with professional appearance and behavior in accordance with dress code and Code of Conduct.

Education, Experience, Certification, and training:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
  • 5 years related work experience

Work Environment, Physical Job requirements and PPE:

Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing the essential job function include but not limited to computers and related equipment, calculators, copiers, fax machines, telephone and vehicles. Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to, safety glasses, hardhat, reinforced toed shoes, FRC coveralls, gloves, and ear plugs or muffs.
