Summary
The Echo Technician plans, delivers and evaluates patient care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of the Director and/or designee. Functions as a team member providing communications with other health team members in Radiology, Special Procedures, Cardiac and Vascular Lab, and Invasive Holding areas. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Performs and monitors echocardiogram (cardiac ultrasound) procedures. Calculates, measures, and documents appropriate values on the tests performed for review and interpretation by physicians. Communicates with physicians, managers, and co-workers as appropriate about changes in patient's clinical conditions while undergoing echocardiogram.
Responsibilities
Use of non-invasive procedures to examine heart valves, chambers and blook vessels to produce images known as echocardiograms. Perform imaging and non-imaging cardiovascular evaluations which may include exercise tolerance tests, Holter monitoring, event recorders, electrocardiograms, stress tests, and transesophageal echocardiography Obtains patient history, explains procedures to patient, addresses patients concern and follows established pre-screening policy and procedure Determines appropriate methodology and techniques to use; arranges immobilization and/or support devices for proper patient positioning, selects appropriate imaging device Uses good judgment when determining if the procedure was sufficient for proper diagnoses, or if additional imaging procedures are needed Provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation Prepares facilities in accordance with procedural requirements; calibrates equipment as required by the institution Monitors the patient s physical condition during the course of the procedure; report patient change of status or emergency situations to clinical staff, supervisor and/or cardiologist Recognize abnormal rhythms and immediately notify Physician or appropriate clinical staff Maintain accurate patient documentation, including computerized documentation Troubleshoot equipment and document errors or equipment malfunctions; escalate issues and concerns to engineer, supervisor, and/or cardiologist Adheres to the Tenet HIPAA Compliance Plan and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement Demonstrates support for the Tenet Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures policies that affect his/her specific job functions/responsibilities; and reporting compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner Responsible for performing tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation, knowledge, and permitted by the policies and procedures of Supplemental Health Care, and other local, state, and federal guidelines; and the policies of the facility requesting the servicesEducation

Pay Range: $35.32 - $54.75
Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an employee’s qualifications and experience.

Performs Echocardiograms using a departmental protocol for obtaining images. Assists with TEE’s and stress testing, providing images that support the physician’s ability to diagnose patients appropriately. Identifies problems & implements appropriate interventions, including reporting critical values. Sets priorities for completion of studies based on acuity, patient preference and/or the coordination of care with nursing and other ancillary services. Provides EKG and Holter Services when Echo workload permits. Obtains EKGs that reflect appropriate lead placement, minimal artifact, and correct patient information. Set’s up and scans Holter Monitors, providing tracings that support the physician’s ability to diagnose patients appropriately.
Education:
Required: Graduate of accredited CAAHEP or diagnostic medical sonography school, or at least 6 months of clinical experience.
Experience:
Required: 6 months in clinical setting.
Preferred: 2 years.
Certifications:
Required: Registry eligible and AHA BLS.
Preferred: RDMS, RDCS, or RCS.
