Overview

Deliver BMW Military Service Technician Education Program to assigned program Military students in a classroom environment as well as tasks and workshop exercises while meeting BMW facilitator certification requirements. Independently study training manuals, relevant materials and vehicle systems (hands-on) to constantly improve the understanding of systems and components.

Organize and maintain the professional appearance of the student areas, the student workshop demonstration areas, the training vehicles and educational aids. Maintain training vehicles, and provide administrative support for training vehicles. Participate in the improvement of existing courses and curriculum through organized feedback to the BMW Group University team. 

Responsibilities

Delivers Military Service Technician Education Programs on the subjects of BMW and MINI model systems and components in a classroom environment using state of the art audiovisual equipment and tasks and workshop exercises to enhance the student’s understanding. Instructor delivery must be lively and speaking from memory without reading off a book or notes at all times. Studies the presentation material ahead of time, is a Subject Matter Expert with the materials and modules, and is able to answer relevant questions. Successfully delivers technical concepts, understandings and workshop procedures to individuals who may not have a technical degree or background. Assigns “tasks” and conducts “quizzes” after the delivery of training modules to gauge student understanding, the success of the delivery and the complete learning cycle. Studies training manuals, relevant materials and vehicle systems through hands-on research on vehicles. Install ‘Bugs’ in vehicle systems to ensure relevant tasks can be effectively completed. Comprehends, reviews and contributes to the curriculum and the STEP instructor’s guides. Prepares own notes within the instructor’s guide. Goes through all workshop exercises prior to teaching the course. Prepares the student worksheets and have the expected answers/results marked within the instructor’s guide. For every system, have a specific set of learning objectives as outlined in the instructor’s guide. Follows the STEP instructor’s guides, learning objectives, and curriculum and outline materials. Ensures professional appearance of self, the student seating area, the student workshop demonstration area, and training vehicles. Makes sure that the storage areas stay uncluttered. Ensures that all Safety Regulations and OSHA requirements are met and adhered to. Reports unsatisfactory conditions immediately and/or take immediate action to resolve them. In cooperation with the STEP Administration, ensures for student support, records, rosters, testing, and complete availability of training manuals, and course attendance and completion recognition items. Monitors the Training and learning management system (ICP) as needed. Evaluates and enhances existing training materials in coordination with senior staff. Tests, quizzes and lab exercises to be evaluated and modified to keep pace with current product. In some cases, travel to other locations in order to share new or updated classes may be required. Provides references to technicians’ daily lecture, task and workshop experience by 1) watching the latest Service Roundtable, ICP VOD and other formats with the class , 2) passing out and/or refer to Service Information bulletins relevant to course material presented, 3) using BMW group materials, aids and warranty return parts to point out effective ways of troubleshooting, analyzing and repairing components, 4) maintaining training vehicles, provide administrative support for training vehicles per procedure, and 5) on an as needed basis, providing STEP training at other training locations. Provides additional ‘coaching’ to students who may need tutoring or extra workshop experience. Checks e-mail at least once a day and phone messages at least twice a day, and dresses professional, . at least “Business Casual” or per the applicable BMW guidelines and policies. Perform other tasks as assigned by manager. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education / Experience

High School Diploma or . required. Vocational School Certificate or Degree in Applied Sciences required Bachelors Degree, although not strictly required for the performance of the position, would be preferred Must meet BMW facilitator certification requirements. ASE Master Automotive plus L1 or L2 preferred. Experience in specific types of positions or functions necessary for adequate performance in this position would include 3 years as a Master Technician or specific BMW or other luxury European retail or wholesale experience Five years experience as instructor in technical/soft skills preferred.

Proficient in MS Office, . Word, Excel and PowerPoint Ability to create documents using Adobe and Quark Excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written. Ability to use good judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to speak, read and write German a plus but not required Must be able to drive manual transmission

Abilities

Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 5 pounds or less 5% of the workday Must be able stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 5% or less of the workday Must be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, learn and reason for all of the workday Must be able to sit and walk or otherwise move around for prolonged periods throughout the workday. Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for prolonged periods throughout the workday.

Pay and Benefits

Salary range $73,000/yr - $78,000/yr depending on experience Medical, dental, vision Company paid LTD & STD  401K with Company match
