POSITION SUMMARY

The Lab Manager for Biology is a professional staff person who works for the Biology Department (Biology) to support the Biology program. The Lab Manager oversees the program's budget and will purchase and prepare materials associated with student Biology laboratories and faculty supervised research. The Lab Manager collaborates with the other biology lab manager to ensure that all tasks are completed. The Lab Manager will hire, instruct, supervise and oversee work-study students. This individual will maintain a clean, safe and organized laboratory environment that includes the inventory management of glassware, chemical stocks, and SDS for Biology. Additional responsibilities include assistance in maintaining laboratory instrumentation, the animal room, computer hardware/software, and audiovisual collections. The Lab Manager will oversee the storage of all chemicals and the collection and disposal of chemical, biological, and biohazard waste for Biology and the University. This individual will work with the Chemical Hygiene Officer to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations for the NSD. This individual will perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of Biology and the Division Head of Sciences and Mathematics.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Biology (or related field) required; Master's degree preferred
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a supervisory capacity, especially with student workers
• Successful experience in laboratory management and knowledge of laboratory safety
• Laboratory experience with microbiology, molecular, and cell biology, specifically mammalian cell cultures, preferred
• Ability to make judicious decisions and work/adapt in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent written and communication skills
• Sensitive to issues related to DEI
• Dedicated to the mission of a small, Catholic, liberal arts institution
